Tuesday - October 9, 2012 From the School This Week's Query Where is the line between your opinion and criticism? Notes from Sally Our assembly visitor this Friday will be Christylez Bacon, a Progressive Hip-Hop Artist. This program will be held in the Meeting Room at 2:45 on Friday. This week's Northwest Current correspondent is Iman Hassen. All students are invited to submit articles for the Northwest Current! Sixth grade parents - we look forward to seeing you at our CHI meeting tomorrow night in the Drama Studio. The meeting begins at 7:30, but we will be serving a light dinner beginning at 6:45, and we encourage everyone to come early for a chance to continue to get to know each other! Parent Conference Days are Monday and Tuesday, October 22 and 23. Please note that Middle School is closed on Monday and dismisses at 11:45 on Tuesday. If you did not sign up for a conference on Back-to-School Night, please contact your child’s homeroom teacher or advisor for a time. 7/8 parents should have received a handout about the conference structure in 7/8 with drop-in times to see other teachers. Notes about the schedule for Tuesday, October 23rd: - Lunch will be served to all students before school is dismissed at 11:45. 5/6 Math Club will not meet. The Aftercare Program will be open, beginning at 12 noon. - The shuttle to the Edgemoor Campus will NOT run until the normal Tuesday time of approximately 2:30. These options exist for students who normally ride the shuttle: Parents may pick up students at Middle School at 11:45. (Please note that Lower School also dismisses early that day.) 7th grade students who are staying for their hangout may ride the shuttle at 2:30. Students may drop in to Aftercare. All parents are invited to the Middle School Meeting for Worship on Thursday, October 18th. Meeting is from 8:10 - 8:40 a.m. in the Robert L. Smith Meeting Room. Parents of 8th graders: please note that the date for the meeting about Upper School originally scheduled for the morning of October 31st has been changed and will be held in early November. Stay tuned for updated information. A reminder to all parents that Middle School students are not supervised on campus after 3:50 (2:20 on Tuesdays). At that time all students should be picked up or should be in a supervised activity. This is for their safety on our open campus! Did you miss the chance to hear the all-school CHI speaker Ken Ginsburg last year? He will be speaking locally later this month. Contact me if you would like more information. The first Math Meet of the year will take place on Tuesday, October 16th, from 3-3:45 p.m. at St. Albans School. Every 6th, 7th, and 8th grader is eligible and welcome to attend. At the meet, students will solve six fun and challenging math problems on their own with students from other area independent schools. We will leave Sidwell Friends at 2:15 p.m. and return to the garage between 4 and 4:15 p.m., and a snack will be provided. Any student interested in attending must turn in a signed permission form to his or her math teacher and must let that teacher know as soon as possible that he or she would like to attend.
