Hello fellow YLS alums!

It’s November already! Thanks to all of you who have responded so positively to this invitation - the Southern Center is very grateful for the donations in support, and we’re looking forward to seeing many of you in DC in a couple of weeks. For those who have not yet RSVPed or donated, it’s not too late - in fact, today (November 2nd) is the last day to purchase dinner tickets before the price increases by $25. So please go online and purchase those tickets now!

We hope those coming to the dinner will also be able to join us for an early reception with Steve that is just for his former students, interns, and SCHR alumni (and their guests). The reception will also be at the Grand Hyatt Hotel, and will take place from 4:30 to 6 PM before the general reception begins at 6 PM. This event is not open to the public, so it is not advertised on the event-specific webpages. Tickets are $30/person (just enough to cover actual costs at the hotel) - you can send your check directly to SCHR indicating that it is for the Steve Bright reception, or go online and make a donation through the general SCHR website: go to www.schr.org<http://www.schr.org> , click on “Donate now,” then make your donation and indicate in the “comments” section that the donation is for tickets to the Steve Bright reception.

Finally, if you just can’t work the event into your schedule, please consider making a donation to the Center in honor of Steve. Looking forward to seeing so many of you soon - thanks again, everyone!

Stephen Bright<https://events.schr.org/30th_anniversary>, the brilliant, impassioned professor who taught us at Yale Law School, will be honored this fall for the 30th anniversary of his leadership at the Southern Center for Human Rights<http://www.schr.org/>. The Frederick Douglass Awards Dinner<https://events.schr.org/index.php?q=16th_annual_dinner> will be on November 15, 2012, in Washington, DC. The tribute will be an energizing and inspiring evening featuring a keynote address by Bryan Stevenson<http://eji.org/eji/about/staff>, one of Steve’s former students, and a former SCHR attorney.

As former students of Steve, we recognize that his impact on our lives and work continues to this day. Please join us in honoring Steve by attending the dinner in November. If you can’t, we hope you will contribute to the dinner in another way - by serving as a sponsor, placing (or having your organization place) an ad in the program, donating to the Southern Center, or contributing to a tribute message from Steve’s YLS students in the program booklet (see below for details). There are links below for various sponsorship opportunities.

This dinner is not only a tribute to our professor and to a great voice for justice for all, but also the signature fundraiser of the Southern Center for Human Rights, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization funded by charitable contributions that receives no government support. The Southern Center fearlessly and tirelessly seeks justice in the deep south. Running on a very modest budget, the Southern Center has established itself as one of the nation’s leading organizations fighting for justice, for the lives of people who face the death penalty, for the human rights of people in prison, and for the right to counsel for all.

We hope you will join us in supporting Steve and the wonderful Southern Center for Human Rights in some way. And we hope to see you at the dinner in November!
