PPI - SA expands its program in Molweni, South Africa

Nestled deep in theMolweni Valley[https://maps.google.com/maps?q=Molweni,+KwaZulu-Natal,+South+Africa&hl=en&ll=-29.737402,30.873814&spn=0.088688,0.138359&sll=37.6,-95.665&sspn=41.029563,70.839844&oq=Molweni,+so&hnear=Molweni,+Durban+Metro,+KwaZulu-Natal,+South+Africa&t=h&z=13], rugged hills and towering cliffs rise over the basketball court at Bazamile. One of PPI - SA's oldest teams practices at "the top of the hill,"an area of Molweni that sits on the slopes where walking is most often the only transport available. In this isolated
community, basketball builds trust, giving PPI - SA coaches an opportunity to teach the youth not only basketball, but about the importance of HIV/AIDS prevention, gender roles and drugs and alcohol awareness. For the youth of Molweni, basketball is not just a sport, it is their life. But as its popularity spread, players found it harder to reach the court. That is when a group of local youth decided to take matters into their own hands. With the assistance of PPI staff, the players got their own team up and running and have begun a new
training program at the "bottom of the hill[http://blog.peaceplayersintl.org/2012/09/25/welcome-to-south-africa-court-spotlight/]".
