Dear Valued Client, We know the past week has been very difficult for many of us dealing with the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy. The size and scope of this storm was unprecedented, with individuals, businesses, cities, and states working their way through the damage. We expect this to take some time with the results likely showing Hurricane Sandy being one of the worst natural disasters ever. For those of you who are still without power or have had losses, we want to let you know you are in our thoughts, and we are hopeful that at least a semi-normal routine will be back with us soon. Prior to the hurricane hitting our area we sent out an email letting you know what steps to take to prepare as best as possible. Now that the storm has passed, we want to share some additional information we hope will be helpful. * When to leave your shelter or return home: Monitor the situation through radio or TV reports, if possible. This will provide insight to early reports of damage and where dangers could still exist. Wait for authorities to give the okay to return to your home or leave your shelter. * After you leave your shelter or return home: Be aware of your surroundings. Watch out for potential dangers such as: - Downed power lines - Broken gas lines - Unstable structures - Emergency crews assessing damage and needing a clear access path. Assess your situation: Look for any damage to your home and property. Work with local authorities to gain safe entry to your home and begin the process of gauging your losses. * If you need assistance or have damages, contact Willis or the insurance company immediately so the property protection and restoration process can begin. * If you decide to start repairs, take photographs and document all the work that is done. * Notify family members: Often, after a disaster such as a hurricane, phone service is either down or overwhelmed with call volume. * Have a plan in place for notifying friends and relatives of your wellbeing. Willis Personal Lines represents multiple insurance companies, so we have listed the claims telephone numbers below of our primary insurance carriers for your information should you need to report a claim.
