> The Avalon Borough Council held its formal reorganization meeting on Friday, July 7th. Council members John McCorristin, Dr. Nancy Hudanich, and James Deever were all sworn in to their respective four year terms on Borough Council by Avalon Mayor Martin Pagliughi. All three were re-elected during the May 9th municipal election in the Borough.

> Following its patriotic performance on July 4th, the Bay Atlantic Symphony returns to Avalon on Saturday, July 15 for its performance at the Avalon Elementary School, 235 32nd St. Under the direction of Jed Gaylin, the symphony will present "Double the Fun." The Avalon Free Public Library sponsors two concerts held by the world-renowned symphony each summer. The second concert, scheduled for Saturday, Aug. 19 is titled "Saint-Saens, Tchaikovsky, Bernstein and more!" Gaylin returns as conductor for this fascinating mixture of Tchaikovsky's "Romeo and Juliet", Leonard Bernstein's "West Side Story" and a "Grease" medley featuring Angelo Xiang Yu on the violin.Both concerts are scheduled to begin at 7pm at the Avalon Elementary School. Tickets are free of charge and can be picked up at the circulation desk at the Avalon Free Public Library.

The Avalon Department of Recreation worked with the Avalon Beach Patrol to install two, brand new beach volleyball nets at the 30th Street beach, located behind Avalon Community Hall.
