President Donald Trump on Tuesday doubled down on his initial reaction to a deadly white supremacist rally in Charlottesville, Virginia, saying there is blame on "both sides," while asking why the "alt-left" isn't also being held accountable for the violent clashes.

"You had a group on one side and you had a group on the other, and they came at each other with clubs and it was vicious and it was horrible, and it was a horrible thing to watch," the president told reporters from the lobby of Trump Tower. "I think there's blame on both sides."

Asked about violence from the so-called "alt-right" that had occurred, Trump responded, "What about the alt-left that came charging at the, as you say, the alt-right?" He then asked, "Do they have any semblance of guilt?"
