The Grateful Dead documentary “Long Strange Trip” that I mentioned yesterday incorporates some of the best film/video footage ever taken of the Dead. One segment comes from a set recorded at the Capitol Theatre in Passaic, New Jersey. The footage that I find particularly remarkable is the second song of the set, the Dead’s classic “Shakedown Street (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uaQ1vXdf1Q0&utm_source=CSIS+All&utm_campaign=1d1bccc52d-EMAIL_CAMPAIGN_2017_08_15&utm_medium=email&utm_term=0_f326fc46b6-1d1bccc52d-145367789 ) ” which begins about 13 minutes into the video. Maybe it’s because the light is hitting Jerry Garcia just right, or maybe it’s the expressive manner in which he’s singing and playing his guitar. It’s just really compelling. The set contains two more songs but it’s really the “Shakedown” that stands the test of time for me. I hope you enjoy it as much as I do.
