Truman National Security Project ! This month, Truman spoke out against the president’s ban on transgender individuals in the U.S. military and the violence in Charlottesville, released details on the 2017 Awards Dinner, and presented trainings at conferences in Atlanta and Dallas.


Maggie Seymour
Maggie Seymour served in the Marine Corps from 2007-2017, transferring to the reserves as a captain in 2017. She deployed in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom, Operation Enduring Freedom, and most recently in support of Operation Inherent Resolve. She holds a BA in Political Science from Loyola University Chicago, an MA in Military History from Norwich University, and is in the dissertation phase of a PhD program in International Studies through Old Dominion University. Her research evaluates U.S. foreign policy’s use of soft power and hard power to combat terrorism from 2001-2017. She is a member of Truman National Security Project’s Defense Council.


Maggie is currently in the middle of a 100-day

coast-to-coast run from San Diego to Virginia Beach in order to give back to those who have embraced her during her 10 years on active duty--specifically the gold star, veterans, and special needs athletes communities. Through her non-profit organization, she will run approximately 3000 miles, making gifts and donations to individuals and organizations along the way. Maggie is also using this run as a way to reconnect to the residents of the United States, stopping in small towns and talking to as many people as possible. She did a similar 4-day 161 mile memorial run last year in honor of the 161 servicewomen who have died supporting combat operations since 9/11, and wrote about the experience in the

Truman Project at Netroots Nation and Young Democrats of America 2017
This month, Truman presented trainings at two conferences: Netroots Nation and Young Democrats of America. At Netroots Nation 2017 in Atlanta, Georgia, four Truman staff attended training sessions and panels with representatives from across the progressive movement. Truman Communications Director Graham West and Press Secretary Jalina Porter presented Truman’s flagship Strategic Communications training, and the Atlanta Chapter convened for a Friday afternoon happy hour. Truman staff also traveled to Dallas, Texas, to participate in this year's annual conference for Young Democrats of America. Truman Director of Training and Public Engagement Anthony Robinson presented Truman's Military 101 training and co-presented Truman's Energy and Climate Security 101 training with
Advocacy Campaign Manager Sydney Tate. Members of YDA were extremely engaged in both sessions and interested in learning more about Truman.
