A few exchange traded funds (ETFs) in your Acorns portfolio—the

What’s interesting about these funds?
These three funds are good examples of your portfolio’s
diversification. The Vanguard S&P 500 ETF invests in all of the companies
in the S&P 500, while the Small-Cap ETF seeks to match returns from an
index of small-capitalization (or “small-cap)” companies, and the FTSE
Developed Markets ETF aims to match the performance of an index of large,
mid and small-cap companies in developed markets outside the U.S. So,
instead of having all of your eggs in one basket, with Acorns your
investments are diversified.


Why is diversification such a big deal?
Portfolios that are diversified, like your Acorns portfolio, on
average yield higher returns and pose a lower risk than portfolios made of
fewer investments. The five Acorns portfolios include seven exchange traded
funds (ETFs) from Vanguard and BlackRock, the world’s leading asset
managers. The funds invest in a wide range of stocks and bonds that vary in
size, sector or entire industry like real estate, tech or consumer goods
— as well as in stocks from international markets. So when the market
fluctuates, remember two key things: 1) your Acorns portfolio is not the
market and 2) your portfolio is diversified, so your investments aren’t
tied to the performance of one or a few companies or sectors.


What’s the main takeaway?
Long story short, don’t get distracted by media hype or the daily
ups and downs of the market. Not only is your Acorns portfolio diversified,
but it will automatically rebalance to help you stay on track toward your
goals when the market fluctuates. Stick with it and remember, every market
downturn in history has ended in an upturn!
