Dear Penn Students and Families,


Penn recognizes the importance of protecting students’ personal information.
In response, we offer options that give students choices regarding when and
with whom their personal information is shared. All students and their families
are encouraged to understand and discuss risks to personal privacy, consider
ways and take steps to minimize those risks.


If you haven’t done so already, please review and update the privacy options
in the Privacy must do list, accessed in the right hand navigation bar in the
Penn Portal. Several of these privacy options are also part of the SRFS Must-Do
List and are easily implemented by the student from within Penn InTouch, our
secure gateway for students to access their information. The options enable
students to:


Grant permission to share academic/financial information

The University generally cannot, by Federal Educational Rights and Privacy
Act (FERPA), discuss academic or financial records with a third party, including
parents and legal guardians, without the student’s explicit permission. To
authorize Penn to share your information with a parent, guardian, sponsor or
another party, you must designate them explicitly. This can be done withinPenn
InTouch, under Profile, privacy & emergency, and Share Academic/Financial Information.


Setup Penn.Pay users to review and pay student account bills
Penn.Pay is Penn’s secure online billing system that provides your monthly
statement and any new daily activity. Other payers (including parents) can
access Penn.Pay only after being invited by you, the student. To set up your
account and invite other payers, go to Penn InTouch, select Student Billing
Account, then Paying Your Bill/Penn.Pay.

Additional student privacy information and choices are described on the PennPrivacy

Please Note
Revealing passwords or allowing other organizations or individuals to use your
personal accounts to access Penn systems is a violation of the University's
Acceptable Use Policy. Additionally, revealing passwords may compromise your
privacy and increase your risk of identity theft.
