[Washington Senate Democratic Campaign]

One of the most important duties of our State Legislature is to protect the most vulnerable among us. That’s why I introduced a bill to end “conversion therapy”, the horrific practice that uses abusive methods to “convert gay teenagers to straight.”

THE BILL IS A NO-BRAINER: it protects minors from abusive practices such as electric shocks and ice baths that used to try and convert gay teenagers. BUT REPUBLICANS STOPPED THE BILL IN ITS TRACKS.

The practice is outdated, abusive, and just plain wrong. It’s appalling that Republicans would block legislation that protects our children from electric shock, ice baths, and other forms of physical and emotional abuse. So-called “conversion therapy” is a threat to the physical and emotional well-being of those forced to undergo the practice, and it can often lead to depression, drug use, anxiety, homelessness, and suicide.

PROPONENTS CALL THIS PRACTICE THERAPY, BUT LET’S CALL IT WHAT IT REALLY IS: TORTURE.

Already, 10 states have voted to ban this torturous practice, it’s past time for Washington to join them. Will you stand with me and tell Republicans to end this hateful practice once and for all? (https://act.myngp.com/Forms/-5507209051567159296)
