Hi folks,
I’m writing today to close the loop on a request I’ve discussed generally with some of you. The BBF has locked in a partnership with Doylestown Hospital (Bucks County, PA) to train in Stewards of Children their emergency medicine and pediatric staff (as a start). This tracks along with the process Patty and Beau and the DE DOJ used with Christiana Care back in 2012-13. As with CC, we hope to use this project as a pilot to train all the hospital staff. As an added benefit, we’re working with the executive director of the Bucks County Hospital Association to expand the trainings to the three other independent hospitals in the county once this pilot project is complete. Additionally, we have funding to cover the initial wave of trainings. This is a big, big deal for us.

Patty and I have been talking with the funder (Joe Cowhey, who is our single largest donor and fundraiser in the last 18 months), and we’d like to use this partnership as an opportunity to truly establish ourselves in the Bucks County community. We’re already doing work with the local YMCA, and feel we can create some buzz and have a big splash if we have the VP attend the announcement of this partnership.

We propose an announcement of this partnership sometime in October, perhaps when the VP has an event or day planned in Philadelphia, where we’ll gather folks from Doylestown Hospital, the YMCA and other local partners, members of the local media and other funding partners. The VP, the Doylestown Hospital folks, and Patty would make remarks. After the announcement, we’d get members of our board and the Doylestown Hospital board together for breakfast, lunch or dinner, depending on the VP’s schedule.

We could do this anywhere in Bucks County, depending on the timing.

Again, this is an important partnership for us, and one we feel will help us establish a real presence in a community where we have funding (through Joe Cowhey) to do a tremendous amount of work. The VP’s attendance at this announcement is a critical piece to both the funding and the programming partnership.

Please let me know a few dates in October that could work for this. I’m happy to draft a longer memo if needed for approval.
