*Greetings, Friends, from Tisha, Sunita, Linda and Robyn!* It was wonderful seeing so many of you at our Parent Reception, and it will be even more fun to see you in the halls during Thursday’s Back to School night! Please make sure you know your student’s advisor—they will give you a copy of your student’s schedule for the fall semester. *In This Update:* § Volunteering in 10th Grade § Parents Association Meeting § Parent Peer Group § First Friday Chats § Next to New Sale § Activities at a Glance § Important Links *Volunteering in 10th Grade* Several of you signed up to host potlucks and help with our family community service casserole bake—thank you! We will be in touch soon to secure your help with those events. *Parents Association* In case you missed it last week, the all-school Parents Association meeting featured the various PA committees and ways to volunteer and get involved at Sidwell Friends. Please visit the Parents Association link on the Parent Portal online for more information. *Parent Peer Group* The Quality of Community Life Committee along with your Grade Representatives warmly invite you to a parent peer group meeting the evening of Homecoming on Saturday, October 18th beginning at 8:30 p.m. (or as soon as you drop off your student at the Dance) in the Arts Center. Refreshments will be served, and then parents will break out into grade level groups of 9th, 10th, 11th and 12th. We'll have two trained facilitators present for each grade; please join us in a supportive atmosphere for a discussion on a range of topics that impact us and our students. *First Friday Chats* There is a casual get-together for Class of 2017 parents on the first Friday of each month at Le Pain Quotidien at 4874 Massachusetts Avenue NW, Washington, DC 20016. This is not a school-sponsored event; everyone is expected to pay for their own refreshments. Next meeting: October 3rd! *Next-to-New Sale* Sidwell Friends’ popular sale of quality used items is back, and we need your help to make this event more successful than ever! The Next-to-New Sale will be held Oct. 16 - 18 (Homecoming Weekend) in the Wannan Gym. The sale is part of the Events for Student Scholarships program, and all net proceeds directly benefit student financial aid. All items unfit for sale are recycled. All unsold items benefit local charities. *We need your donations!* Collection times at the Wisconsin Avenue campus will run Wednesday, Sept. 3, to Saturday, Oct. 4, on Mondays and Wednesdays from 8:00 - 10:00 a.m., and Saturdays from 9:00 - 11:00 a.m. This year, we will introduce regular Lower School collection days on Fridays from 7:45 - 8:45 a.m. Sept. 12 through Oct. 3(weather-permitting). We accept clothing (women’s, men’s, teens', children’s, infants'/toddlers'), toys, children’s books, shoes, accessories, furniture (no mattresses), housewares, hardware, pet equipment and supplies, office supplies, electronics, music, movies, holiday decorations and costumes, sports equipment, SFS logo clothing, bicycles, and art. We also need shopping bags of all kinds and moving boxes. To view a list of acceptable donations, please click here <http://www.sidwell.edu/broadcast/action/clickthru.aspx?id=366.2437.1667322.69064.13459> . *We need volunteers!* There are volunteer jobs for everyone at this event! We need volunteers to organize, price, and set up donations for display, to serve as cashier at the sale, and to cleanup post-sale. You can spend as much time helping as you would like—even a few hours is a huge help! Come with a group of friends (we will provide snacks). To sign up to volunteer, please visit our Volunteer Hub <http://www.sidwell.edu/broadcast/action/clickthru.aspx?id=366.2437.1667322.69064.13533> page. This is a great way to meet members of the SFS community! Friends and extended family are also welcome to volunteer. Plus, volunteers get to shop the Pre-Sale! *Save the dates for the Sale:* Wednesday, Oct. 15, 3:00 — 8:00 p.m. (SFS faculty and staff only) Thursday, Oct. 16, 9:30 a.m. — 8:00 p.m. (SFS community only) Friday, Oct. 17, 9:30 a.m. — 8:00 p.m. (Open to the public) Saturday, Oct. 18, 9:30 a.m. — 4:00 p.m. (Open to the public) If you are interested in learning more about the Next-to-New Sale or want to discuss specific volunteer opportunities, please contact Melanie Jacobsen (parent of Katie ’27) at mjacobsen12345@gmail.com or Felice Roggen (parent of Sophie ’17, Oliver ’19 and Annie ’21) at froggen@mac.com. *Finally*, all Grade Representatives and active members of the Parent Association are warmly invited to help us whenever you have time!
