William Hyman '80, Chair, Finance Committee Go Green with Electronic Statements

Last fall, The Yale Club implemented a new property management system with enhanced online payment and electronic statement delivery service. You can now review and pay your monthly statements online with greater ease. Online payments may be made with a credit/debit card or bank account ACH transfer. Additionally, you can enjoy the convenience of scheduling automatic payments.

Here are some highlights:

If you’ve already logged into your account, no registration is required

I'd like to personally request that all of you consider choosing electronic statement delivery and opt out of printed statements. This is not only good for the environment but good for the Club’s bottom line. Each year, the Club spends $65,000 on printing, postage, and mailing, not to mention countless hours of staff time. These funds could be reinvested by the Club to offer members more services and improve your overall customer service experience.

The Club’s Wi-Fi experience is way overdue for improvement. Aside from poor bandwidth and overall building coverage, our access points are older technology that is not up to the latest technology used in most smart devices. As a result, members are frustrated by inconsistent and slow internet speed and an inability to hit our network from some popular locations in the Club. An additional irritant is the requirement to regularly reidentify yourself to the network to gain access upon returning to the Club.

Good news! All of that is about to change.

Charles Kehrli, Executive Chef Eating Gluten-free at the Club

For anyone who has concerns regarding wheat or gluten, I strongly recommend you read Wheat Belly by William Davis, MD and Grain Brain by David Perlmutter, MD with Kristin Loberg. Both books present insights into the impact wheat and gluten has on our health. Over the years I have modified my personal dietary habits with great results. By reducing gluten, wheat, sugars, and processed carbohydrates, I have had significant improvements in my cholesterol, triglycerides, inflammation and an improved general feeling of wellness.

You may be surprised to know that a significant number of our dishes are (or can easily be modified) gluten-free or vegetarian. I try to ensure that gluten-free menu items incorporate the same textures, flavors, and balance that all our menu items share. There are so many ingredients that are naturally gluten-free - think of produce, lentils, beans, seeds, nuts, and grains. By incorporating these components and creating adaptable menus, it is easy to accommodate a dietary request in the middle of a busy dining service without having the line come to a screeching halt.

As more people find they have gluten sensitivity or are just trying to improve their diets, it has become essential for our menus to meet those needs and reflect the dining habits of our membership. Our culinary teams are at your disposal and will be pleased to accommodate your dining requests.

President's Day Holiday Hours of Operation

Monday, February 18th

The Club will offer the following hours of service on President's Day:

The Tap Room will serve breakfast from 7:00 am to 10:30 am, lunch from 12:00 pm to 2:30 pm, dinner from 5:30 pm to 10:00 pm, and cocktails from 12:00 pm to 10:00 pm.
The Gym will be open from 6:00 am to 6:00 pm.
The Locker Rooms will be open from 6:00 am to 6:30 pm.
The Pool will be open from 10:00 am to 6:00 pm.
Massages will be available by appointment.
Jack Ford '72 on Chariot on the Mountain

Tuesday, February 19, 6:30 pm

Emmy- and Peabody Award-winning journalist, respected educator, documentary producer, prominent trial attorney, and author Jack Ford ’72 will discuss how he discovered a virtually unknown true story of a slave woman who took her master to trial and won, on a ceremonial plaque on the grounds of an 1830s courthouse in a small village in Virginia. Curious about the case, he spent months on a journey of discovery which took him from the courthouse archives to the private research files created in the 1940s by a Pennsylvania historian.

Kevin Quinn '02 on "Leaving God for Yale: Lux, Veritas and Darkness"

Kevin Quinn ’02 will describe his experience as a Pentecostal child minister who arrived at Yale fully intent on remaining a devout Christian. His freshman year was a terrifying collision with the so-called secular world, eventually resulting in the dissolution of all his religious beliefs and a guarded acceptance of his sexuality.

Young Members' Hunger Games: Ball Out in the Capitol

Arm your hearts and sound your sparrows,―the annual Hunger Games are about to begin. May the odds be ever in your favor. So come one, come all to the halls of the Capitol and join Young Members of the Yale, Virginia, Dartmouth, DKE, Princeton, Cornell, Harvard, and Penn Clubs for the grandest Send-off Ball you ever did see. Black tie required. Bow and arrow, strictly forbidden. Expect to ooh-and-aah as you sip beer, wine, and bubbly from an open bar, plus enjoy a whole suckling pig and all the hors d’oeuvres and sweets you can muster. (Yes, Katniss has been warned.)

Grab your wildest hat and fanciest bow and do be sure to RSVP! Tickets are $70 per person in advance and $90 at the door. The first hundred guests through our doors receive a cocktail to begin their evening. All sales final.
