One year ago today, a gunman walked into an American high school in Parkland, Florida ...

You know the rest.

The aftermath was a real emotional roller coaster for our nation. We watched the images on television for days. The pictures. The interviews. The grieving families.

And then the kids.

The kids who, filled with grief, used the moment to speak up and demand commonsense changes to our gun laws. Then the nation responded in overwhelming agreement.

Remember the March for Our Lives?

But the response from Republicans in Congress? They wanted to ARM TEACHERS. And to veterans, that immediately stood out as an absolutely ludicrous idea.

The notion that you're going to give the social studies teacher a gun and a few hours at the range and think that they'd be prepared to take on a mass shooter with an assault weapon was... ridiculous, to say the least.

But now times have changed. We've elected a new Congress. One that will fight for what the Parkland students demanded almost immediately after the shooting at their school.

And today, we want to stand with them:

Sign our petition: tell the House of Representatives to pass universal background checks. The nation's veterans, military families, and their civilian supporters know this bill will save lives. We want action.

It looks like we'll actually get a vote on this bill in the coming weeks. It was just marked up in committee yesterday.

You can bet we're going to be VERY involved in this fight. Because this issue matters. And our voices do too.
