Know Someone Who'd Be a Great JV? Encourage Friends and Family to Apply! If you know someone who could make a difference in one of our locales, consider sharing with them the impact a year of volunteering can make. Those interested in a service year can sign up for more information here or apply here. New Recruitment Efforts at JVC Northwest Focusing on Northwest Applicants JVC Northwest recently underwent an equity audit from a third party consultant and is making conscious and educated efforts to be a more equitable and just organization. We recognize the immense gifts that those from our locales and the Northwest can offer our partner agencies. For the first time in JVC Northwest history, we have not one, but two 9-month recruiters. They will be spending a significant portion of the next three months recruiting in the Northwest. If you know anyone who would make a great JV or if you yourself would like to join our recruiting efforts, contact Lindsey Boulais. Save the Date: 2019 Seattle Benefit May 19, 2019, Seattle University This year's annual fundraising event will continue the theme of Justice Starts at Home from Orientation. A morning mass and brunch will be included in the program. All from the JVC Northwest community are invited to attend. If you are in the Seattle area and are interested in helping coordinate the event, please email Majo Sandi. The Growth I was Looking For Read the Latest from our JVC Northwest Blog! Zac is serving at the After School Club in Woodburn, OR. You can find additional, stories, photos, and fun videos on our JVC Northwest blog. AmeriCorps Week is Coming Up! Bend JVEnCorps' Good Neighbor Philosophy Walking Up The Stairs About three years ago, one of the Bend JVEnCorps volunteers broke her wrist, and she was surprised that her downstairs neighbor never came upstairs to inquire how she was or if she needed help. That incident inspired JVE Mary Hartrich, who volunteers at the Bend Public Library, to make her main volunteer experience one where she assists those in the community who need help—and she is willing to “walk up the stairs" literally and metaphorically to do so. That’s how the Bend JVEnCorps community’s “walking up the stairs” ethos began. AmeriCorps Stories of Service Empowering Native American Students at St. Labre Only 67 percent of Native American children graduate high school and only 17 percent go on to further their education. Through tutoring, being present, and empowering their students, JV AmeriCorps members Michael DeSantis and Caroline Fenton (Ashland MT '18-19) hope to change this statistic for the students at St. Labre's dormitory. Read more about Michael's experience in this month’s AmeriCorps blog! Events, Resources, & Reflections Find Out What's Happening in Your City!
