Yogis- It’s official! I’m beyond thrilled this is actually going to happen. . . over the first two weekends of November we are going to host Certified Ashtanga teacher John Campbell at the Studio. He's a wonderful teacher- and we're honored that he'd come to our small space to share his 20+ years of experience. Both weekends will offer a variety of options- lectures, led practices, and traditional Mysore- and I'm sure they'll all be quite popular. Due to our usual space limits, as a thank you for your membership at the Studio, this first email is going only to our current students. Next week I’ll make a more general announcement. Click here to read more and to sign up. http://clients.mindbodyonline.com/classic/ws?studioid=27680&stype=-8&sTG=23&sVT=23&sView=day If you need a reason to sign up for this or any other workshop soon, be aware that beginning Oct. 1 we are required to add 5.75% sales tax to all transactions (it goes without saying we'll be opposing Mary Cheh in the next City Council election). As a side note, I wanted to let you know that while John Campbell is visiting, I’ll be spending a few weeks in Nepal. It’s a trip I’ve been preparing for and looking forward to for a while now - but the truth is, while I’m away, I will miss things at our cozy Studio, which is home to me. It’s my hope that while I’m away, you’ll continue to take our classes and benefit from all the other teachers who have so much to contribute. A few folks have asked how to support me on this trip - that’s the best support you could offer. Hope you’ll take advantage of this wonderful chance. Come see us when you can, Keith www.aysdc.com John Campbell: The Contemplative Practice of Ashtanga Yoga UVA Professor of Indo-Tibetan Buddhism and Certified Ashtanga Yoga teacher John Campbell makes his first visit to Ashtanga Yoga DC for this intensive study-practice weekend. With clarity and humor, John draws upon scholarship and a practitioner's experience to guide beginning to advanced-level practitioners of Ashtanga Yoga through a broad spectrum of the "inner" and "outer" practices of this profound system, including philosophy, mantra, meditation, and the core practices of breathing and movement. This is a remarkable opportunity to explore theory and practice of Ashtanga Yoga with a uniquely qualified scholar-practitioner of Buddhism and Yoga. John Campbell, Ph.D., is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Religious Studies at the University of Virginia and the Founder of the Contemplative Sciences Center (uvacontemplation.org), at which he is currently the Coordinating Director of Yoga Programs. He is a longtime practitioner of Tibetan Buddhism and has been practicing Ashtanga Yoga for over twenty years, seventeen of which were under the direct guidance of Shri K. Pattabhi Jois. In 2003, he was honored to become one the few Certified teachers of Ashtanga Yoga worldwide. He lives with his wife and three children in Charlottesville, VA. Cost: Early bird price: $30 per session. Beginning on Nov. 1: $35 per session. Each workshop may be signed up for individually. Due to the difficulty of scheduling, there will be no refunds for cancellations or no-shows.
