** Together We Can End Addiction and the Opioid Epidemic

We’re in the middle of a war. Addiction is one of the greatest – if not THE greatest – health crises of our time. Drug overdoses are now the #1 cause of unintentional death in the United States; and according to the WHO, globally, around 31 million people have drug use disorders. The challenge is complex, but at least the problem is clear, said Dr. Sanjay Gupta, CNN’s Chief Medical Correspondent (https://startuphealth.us2.list-manage.com/track/click?u=7b5e9c627761550fb3157fdb9&id=3d1aab6f2c&e=ec25e68ef1) , in a recent sit-down with StartUp Health. As such, Gupta added, "there should be incredible innovation around all aspects of [the opioid epidemic]."

** The Triathlete Taking Lessons From Diabetes Management to Tackle Obesity and Cardiovascular Disease

David Weingard was training for a six-day survival race when he was first diagnosed with Type I diabetes. A true Iron Man, he turned the health challenge into a calling. Weingard launched Fit4D, now Cecelia Health, a disease management platform that provides the same type of expert clinical education that he received, to all patients living with diabetes. This year, he pushes on, expanding his company’s mission to support other chronic diseases.
