Currently Mr. Abe's tenure as Prime Minister looks secure enough to allow him to bring many of his policies to fruition. What have been the major foreign policy accomplishments and issues of the Abe administration since its inception in December 2012? What are its foreign policy goals and priorities going forward? How does the government's foreign policy interact with its economic objectives? Please join the Sasakawa Peace Foundation USA to discuss these and other questions with the Honorable KeizoTakemi, Liberal Democratic Party Member of the Japanese House of Councillors and an important voice on foreign policy *The event will take place on October 8 at 12pm at The Occidental Grill & Seafood (475 Pennsylvania Ave., NW, Washington, DC 20004). **This is a public event. Seating is limited and will be allocated on a first-come, first-served basis. About Keizo Takemi Keizo Takemi is a member of Japan's House of Councillors. Takemi served initially in the House of Councillors from 1995 to 2007, and was State Secretary for Foreign Affairs in 1999. He returned to the Diet in December 2012. In the intervening years, from November 2007 to June 2009, he was a research fellow at the Harvard School of Public Health. During his previous tenure in the Diet, he served in the first Abe cabinet as Senior Vice Minister for Health, Labor and Welfare. He led the initiative to establish the UN Trust Fund for Human Security and was later named by former UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan a member of the High Level Panel on UN System-Wide Coherence in Areas of Development, Humanitarian Assistance and Environment. Since September 2007, he has been serving as the chair of a public-private partnership for global health, known as the study group on "Challenges in Global Health and Japan's Contributions," later restructured as the Executive Committee of JCIE's Program on Global Health and Human Security. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Forward email http://ui.constantcontact.com/sa/fwtf.jsp?llr=cr9nk5cab&m=1102676683298&ea=rhb@rspdc.com&a=1118594812815 This email was sent to rhb@rspdc.com by programs@spfusa.org.
