Dear Board of Directors, Hello from Iowa and home of the World Food Prize with two items. 1. MCChange. At the Board meeting, we hosted the "new" Acting CEO of the MCC, Brock Bierman. He's gone! The Washington Post just reported<https://www.washingtonpost.com/investigations/acting-leader-removed-from-agency-the-white-house-has-used-to-provide-jobs-to-trump-supporters/2018/10/18/d98215d4-d2e8-11e8-8c22-fa2ef74bd6d6_story.html?utm_term=.c0a5fddc4e3c> that in a brief email to agency staff last evening, the White House "directed that Brock Bierman no longer serve as Acting CEO of MCC." The email offered no explanation for his removal, Jonathan Nash will be assuming Bierman's duties (again) and Bierman appears to be back at USAID full time. Earlier this summer, the Administration was criticized in the press for placing unqualified political appointees at MCC. 2. World Food Prize Events. Yesterday, USGLC hosted several events in Iowa - a kickoff 2020 discussion with our Iowa State Advisory Committee featuring Dan Glickman; I moderated the opening plenary on Hunger, Conflict, and Peace with USGLC National Security Advisory Council member General Kip Ward, and our friends Nancy Lindborg from USIP and Michael Klosson from Save the Children; and we hosted a wonderful reception for World Food Prize delegates and friends, celebrating America's leadership in global food security. Special thanks to our event Host Committee -- CARE, Cargill, Catholic Relief Services, Chemonics, Land O'Lakes, RTI International, Save the Children, Walmart and World Vision and Dan Glickman, John Ellenberger, and Eric Reading for joining us.
