I thought you would be interested in the following message to NDI staff about the Institute's #Not the Cost initiative, which was launched a year ago. If you have any questions, please let Sandra Pepera, our director for Gender, Women and Democracy, or me know. With best regards, Ken Kenneth Wollack President National Democratic Institute 455 Massachusetts Ave., NW, 8th Floor Washington, DC 20001 202-728-5500 (Tel) 888-875-2887 (Fax) email: ken@ndi.org website: www.ndi.org Dear colleagues, Friday, March 17, marked one year since NDI launched the #NotTheCost initiative <https://www.ndi.org/not-the-cost> and our global call to action against the violence that women in politics face. The importance of this work continues to be underscored by powerful testimonies from women around the world and by new research. Over the past year, we’ve worked to address violence against politically active women in elections <http://voteswithoutviolence.org>, and collaborated with the UN’s Special Rapporteur for Violence Against Women to establish more systematic reporting of VAW-P and raise global awareness, including through the Incident Report Form <https://www.ndi.org/incident-report> (in four languages) now located on NDI’s website. Please continue to raise the profile of this form with all the politically-active women -- including community organizers and activists, party members, candidates, elected officials at any level, electoral officials, ministers -- you come across. To mark the first anniversary of #NotTheCost, we are pleased to announce new and exciting resources for NDI staff, partners and everyone committed to this issue: ONLINE PROGRAM GUIDANCE <https://www.ndi.org/publications/notthecost-program-guidance-stopping-violence-against-women-politics> for all practitioners seeking to incorporate a focus on violence against women in politics in programming. Translations to follow. as well as TRANSLATIONS <https://contribute.ndi.org/not-the-cost-call-to-action-sign-up> of the original Call to Action, now available in: Arabic <https://contribute.ndi.org/not-the-cost-call-to-action-sign-up-arabic> | French <https://contribute.ndi.org/not-the-cost-call-to-action-sign-up-french> | Spanish <https://contribute.ndi.org/not-the-cost-call-to-action-sign-up-spanish> Thank you for your continued engagement and support on this important initiative, including the NDI offices in Nigeria, Guatemala, Honduras, Uganda, Myanmar, Tanzania, Tunisia, Côte d'Ivoire and Nicaragua, who have implemented programming that addresses violence against women in politics. We look forward to continuing to work with additional country offices to ensure that violence is truly #NotTheCost of women’s political participation.
