U.S. Attorney Preet Bharara, who oversees the powerful Manhattan office known for handling high-profile Wall Street and terrorism cases, tweeted Saturday that he'd been fired by the Trump administration, which had asked remaining U.S. attorneys appointed by President Barack Obama to offer their resignations Friday.

"I did not resign. Moments ago I was fired. Being the US Attorney in SDNY will forever be the greatest honor of my professional life," Bharara tweeted.

A senior administration official confirmed that Bharara had been fired.
