Dear USGLC Board of Directors,

I am pleased to share the wonderful news that the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation will be awarding the USGLC a new grant totaling $18 million over the next three years. This extraordinary gift will double the level of our current funding from the Foundation. While the grant will be structured as general support, they are largely investing in our work around the country and the additional funds will be used to expand our state efforts to nearly 30 by 2016.

Needless to say, I am thrilled yet overwhelmed. It is a true honor to receive this vote of confidence and I know it would not happen if we didn't have strong board leadership from Dan, Carolyn and Bill, along with each one of you. I am blessed with talented and dedicated colleagues, and two boards that guide and support us every step of the way.

The grant, which still needs to be finalized, will require us to raise significant additional funds to ensure that we diversify our funding sources, so I will continue to need your help and as always, good council.

But for now, I just wanted to say thank you and congratulate you for this is truly a shared success.
