For our meeting with Fbook, we asked Camille what her answer would be if Facebook said, "Tell us everything we can do to make our site better and more cooperative for law enforcement." As we've discussed, she sees this as a situation where FB needs Beau more than Beau needs FB. They have a lot to gain, in theory (would be nice to hear Chris' take on that), and we need to make sure we preserve/expand Beau's cred on the issue. See Camille's list below. Federal law enforcement recommends having Facebook keep accounts "Open" that have been flagged. Closing accounts down, sometimes as they are being > monitored by LE, obstructs investigations and the trail goes cold. > > 2. Federal law enforcement recommends that Facebook capture data related to "Groups". They need data collected and preserved on "members" of groups, who posted what to the group, and what other groups members belong to. > > 3. Facebook has a one to two week turnaround on admin subpoena requests. Can they do better? > > 4. They need to provide a good contact for immediate/emergency law enforcement contact, which as you know is time lost in finding a child. > > 5. A new feature that Facebook has added is using the IP address to identify where the user logs onto their account profile from. It then posts the status on the wall of the user's profile. The user can disable this feature, but we are not sure if Facebook keeps this information, if so, it would be very helpful to LE. > > 6. When we do have a legal return, they send data non related to suspect or victim due to the "friends" associated. This may provide good information down the road, but when trying to react to a case quickly, it would be better if the suspect and/or victim information is put in the report first. > > Bullying Recommendations: > > 1. Facebook should create a default setting for minor's pages that allow the user to "allow/accept" comments posted to their wall. This would prevent bullies from posting comments on someone's wall. Can a similar feature be created for status comments that go out about other's. For example: If someone posts a threat or a rumor to their status about someone else, the subject of the rumor would have to option to delete it. > > These are the preliminary recs.
