Tuesday - March 1, 2011 From the School This Week's Query Why do we treat certain people differently because of who they hang out with?Notes from Sally No assembly this week (we are not in school on Friday). 6th Grade Parents – I look forward to seeing you tomorrow morning in the dining room for Conversations with Sally. 8th Grade Parents – Remember you have one more tour opportunity in Upper School tomorrow morning. I hope that we will see all of you at 7:30 on Thursday evening in the Drama Studio for our parent presentation by sexuality educator Deborah Roffman. Local Minimester groups had their first meeting today, and students will be bringing home both an information sheet about the activities of the week as well as a permission form that needs to be returned. Please don’t hesitate to contact the chaperones of your child’s project or the office if you have questions. Karolynn Coleman continues to be in the counselor’s office each day and is gradually getting to know the students. During this time, we have set up a generic email: mscounselor@sidwell.edu, which she is checking if you would like to get in touch with her. She will also be answering the counselor’s extension at 202-537-8154. We are so grateful to the many, many parents who contributed to our feast last Wednesday! We would also like to say a special thank you to Colette Chichester and Felix Sanchez for their coordination efforts. We feel appreciated! Congratulations to our Robotics teams! Both the 4th/5th Grade Team and the 6th/7th Grade Team went to the state competition this past weekend. The 6th/7th Grade Team, the BotBoyz, had an impressive showing. The students had been preparing all year and made great strides in robot programming and their research project. At the tournament, the Botboyz placed 6th in robot performance and won the 1st place trophy for their research project. Congratulations BotBoyz Jordan Bessalel, Sam Blazes, Harry Finn, Andy Harris, Spencer Kee, Garrett Nixon, Jason Souvaliotis, and Alan Zhang, and their coach Mark Brumley. We’re very proud of you! Congratulations also go out to the Debate Team which competed in its second tournament on Saturday and ended with a combined record of 4 wins and 4 losses between the 2 teams we brought. Jake Gosselin ranked 18th overall in speaker points. The 2 teams, Jake Gosselin, Michael Fine and Jack Hannah and Morgan Dunstan, Julia Horwitz and Gigi Stark and their coach, Burt Nadler, did a great job!Instrumental Music Notes Aladdin Pit Band: Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday, 3:45-5:45 Rm 101 5/6 Concert Band: Wednesday Rehearsal Period Rm 101 7/8 Concert Band: Wednesday Rehearsal Period Rm 101 Choral Music Notes 7/8 Chorus Rehearsals This Week Wednesday, March 2nd Boys Ensemble: 7:25Yearly Physical Exams for Students Please remember to get a medical appointment for your child’s yearly physical as soon as possible. Please see the "read more" link to review the summarized procedures and see the “How to Get Things Done” section of the Parents Association portal on the Website for more detailed instructions. Thank you to the myriad of parents who take on these PA volunteer jobs and your willingness to expend your own funds to run these programs. Unfortunately, very delayed reimbursements make it impossible to budget effectively, and we hope that this new procedure will allow us to allocate our PA funds more efficiently.
