LET'S GET STARTED

Download the Alexa App
When you receive Echo, visit http://www.amazon.com/echosetup?ref_=ods_Email_Home_Echo_welcome_setup. This will take you to the best app experience for your Echo. Opening the app will immediately start the setup process. During setup, you'll connect Echo to the internet, so you'll need your Wi-Fi password. Once you've connected to Wi-Fi and associated Echo with your Amazon account, you're ready to start playing with Echo.

Talk to Echo
"Alexa" is the word you say to get Echo's attention. Say this "wake word" and then tell Echo what you want to do. You'll know Echo is ready when the light ring turns blue.

You may also change the wake word to "Amazon" or "Echo" in the settings section of the Alexa App.

JUST ASK

Echo connects to Alexa, a cloud-based voice service, to provide information, answer questions, play music, read the news, check sports scores or the weather, and more--instantly. All you have to do is ask.

Listen to Music
Echo provides hands-free voice control for all of your music--just ask:

"Alexa, play some Prime Music."
"Alexa, shuffle my dinner party playlist."
"Alexa, play Today's Hits station on Pandora."
"Alexa, turn it up."
"Alexa, play KEXP."
"Alexa, stop the music."

Get Help Around the House
Echo can keep you organized and on time with alarms, timers, shopping, and to-do lists--just ask:

"Alexa, add milk to my shopping list."
"Alexa, re-order laundry detergent."
"Alexa, put dinner reservations on my to-do list."
"Alexa, set a timer for 15 minutes."
"Alexa, set an alarm for 7:00 AM."
"Alexa, snooze."

Stay Up to Date
Echo can provide a customized Flash Briefing of the latest news, an accurate forecast, events from your Google Calendar, and more—just ask:

"Alexa, what's in the news?"
"Alexa, what's my Flash Briefing?"

"Alexa, will it rain tomorrow?"
"Alexa, what's the forecast this weekend?"

"Alexa, how is traffic?"
"Alexa, what's my commute?"

"Alexa, what's on my calendar today?"
"Alexa, when's my next event?"

More to Try
Echo can provide information about local businesses directly from Yelp, answer all kinds of questions from places like Wikipedia and IMDb, give you sports scores and schedules for the NFL, NBA, MLS, MLB, NHL, NCAA, WNBA, and more, and even tell a few jokes--just ask:

"Alexa, find me a nearby Chinese restaurant."
"Alexa, what are the hours for a nearby pharmacy?"

"Alexa, Wikipedia: Abraham Lincoln."
"Alexa, who wrote The Hunger Games?"
"Alexa, what's the definition of serendipity?"

Control Your Smart Home
Echo can control smart home devices so you can switch on the lamp before getting out of bed, turn on the fan or space heater while reading in your favorite chair, or dim the lights from the couch to watch a movie--all without lifting a finger, or even raising your voice.

Just ask:

"Alexa, turn on the downstairs lights."

Listen to Audiobooks and Kindle eBooks
Audiobooks and Kindle eBooks offer a great way to enjoy your favorite books. Listening is easy--just ask:

"Alexa, read my book."
"Alexa, go back/forward."

Alexa Skills
Skills add even more capabilities like ordering a pizza from Domino's, requesting a ride from Uber, opening your garage with Garageio, and more. Enabling skills lets your Echo do even more. Simply open the Alexa App, tap "Skills" from the menu, then enable any of over 100 third-party skills you want to try.

Using the Alexa App and Voicecast
All of your requests to Echo will appear in the Alexa App. You can also use the app to browse your music library, customize your Flash Briefing, manage your lists, set timers and alarms, change settings, and more.

The automatic Voicecast feature displays information on your Fire tablet as you interact with Echo. For example, say "Alexa, Wikipedia: Abraham Lincoln" and your tablet will automatically wake up showing the details from Wikipedia for Abraham Lincoln. You must have the latest Fire OS (version 4.5.1 or later) running on your tablet.
