Stephen King, Cheryl Strayed, Dave Eggers, more writers sign petition
against Donald Trump

Donald Trump’s political run has seen a number of critics speak out against
him, and now the literary world is banding together to critique the
presidential candidate.

Hundreds of authors have signed a petition, Writers on Trump,
<http://www.ipetitions.com/petition/WritersOnTrump> to stand up against the
businessman. The petition has already been signed by over 450 writers,
including Stephen King, Jennifer Egan, Amy Tan, Dave Eggers, Cheryl
Strayed, and Michael Chabon.

“As writers, we are particularly aware of the many ways that language can
be abused in the name of power,” says the beginning of a letter posted on
the petition’s page. The note continues on with specifics of their
opposition to Trump, “The rise of a political candidate who deliberately
appeals to the basest and most violent elements in society, who encourages
aggression among his followers, shouts down opponents, intimidates
dissenters, and denigrates women and minorities, demands, from each of us,
an immediate and forceful response.”

The petition, which recently passed 2,000 signatures, is hoping to reach
10,000. The full letter and further details are available here
