As some of you know, for several years now, I have been on the Board of a charitable organization called the National Association for Urban Debate Leagues ("NAUDL"). NAUDL helps make policy debate programs available to high school and middle school students in underserved public school districts in cities nationwide. The programs have been proven to increase high school graduation rates, reading and critical thinking skills, and college enrollment, success, and graduation rates. On June 8, I am co-hosting an event with Scott Segal, a partner at Bracewell, at 6:00pm at Bracewell's offices: 2001 M Street NW, Suite 900. The event will introduce people to the power of high school debate programs, and we will have two speakers who will talk about how debate skills translate into the public debates with which we are most familiar - the Presidential Debates. Ron Klain, who has helped prepare Democratic presidential candidates for decades, and Brett O'Donnell, who has helped prepare Republican candidates in recent cycles, will speak on the 2016 debate cycle and how debate technique is relevant to what candidates do on stage and on television. This should be a fascinating and timely conversation.
