[http://www.usglc.org/downloads/2015/09/usglc-logo.jpg] Dear Board of Directors, Thank you to everyone who participated in what was a very full, but productive, board meeting last week. The input was invaluable, and I thought the discussions with our guests were exceptionally useful. Senator Perdue told his staff that he found it to be one of the "most productive meetings he has had in D.C." and the Trump Transition Team is already working on a date for a meeting with Governor Christie. Personally, I thought the insights we gleaned from Marco Rubio's and Jeb Bush's campaign managers were absolutely fascinating. Here are some key dates and items to add to your calendar. 1. 2017 Board of Directors Schedule Please note that all meetings will be held in Washington D.C. beginning in the morning of the first day and ending no later than noon the second day. * Board Retreat - February 1-2, 2017 * Spring Board Meeting - May 16-17, 2017 * Fall Board Meeting - October 4-5, 2017 2. Final Impact 2016 Events We have two signature events in battleground states to raise our issue prior to Election Day. Please consider attending, sending someone from your team, or hosting a booth at our Expo. Let Emily Benovitz know if you are interested in participating (ebenovitz@usglc.org<mailto:ebenovitz@usglc.org>). * Columbus, Ohio - September 28 - Featuring Secretary Bob Gates The lunch event will also feature Governor John Kasich, Senator Sherrod Brown (if Congress adjourns), an Ohio State University Trustee, and our own Tara Hogan Charles of Proctor & Gamble. * Tampa, Florida - October 17 - Featuring General Stanley McChrystal The lunch event will also feature a prominent business and local elected officials. 3. Fall Statewide Events & Other Dates of Interest * Chicago, Illinois - October 26 - Featuring Senator Durbin * Salt Lake City, Utah - November 18 - Featuring Senator Hatch * Tribute Dinner 2016 - Week of December 5 * 2017 State Leaders Summit - June 13-14, 2017 * Tribute Dinner 2017 - December 2017 (date TBD) Lastly, we will be in touch about two strategy items from our discussions. The Public Policy Committee, chaired by Jeff Colman and staffed by Lindsay Plack, will be incorporating your input to USGLC's proposed statement on the impact of discretionary spending caps to the International Affairs Budget. The Public Policy Committee will be back to you with your recommendation to the full board soon after the election. And the Development Committee, chaired by Karl Hofmann and staffed by Melissa Lieberman, is taking the feedback from the board on a proposed membership dues re-structuring for your review at the February meeting. We will be watching the debates closely, along with 100 million of our fellow citizens. Hopefully, we won't hear any problem statements! More soon.
