font-size:14px;">Dear Friends,</span><br /><br /><span style="line-height:17px; font-size:14px;">I hope that you are enjoying the beginning of your holiday season and that you are looking forward to the upcoming break. </span><span style="line-height:17px; font-size:14px;">I am writing to share that after 38 years of remarkable service to Sidwell Friends, Anne Renninger will retire at the conclusion of the current academic year. </span><br /><br /><span style="line-height:17px; font-size:14px;">Prior to joining Sidwell Friends in 1981, Anne enjoyed an extraordinary career as a three-sport athlete—basketball, tennis, and track—at the University of Maryland, where she served as the captain of the women's basketball team. Upon graduation, she commenced a collegiate coaching career, serving as a women's basketball assistant coach at the University of Maryland, the inaugural head coach of The George Washington University women's basketball program, and the head track and field coach at the College of William and Mary.</span><br /><br /><span style="line-height:17px; font-size:14px;">Dubbed a "basketball legend" by WTOP News, Anne has led the Sidwell Friends girls' basketball program to over 570 victories, and numerous league championships. Anne has also been the head coach of the golf, girls' tennis, and girls' track teams. Under her direction, the track team celebrated eight championships.</span><br /><br /><span style="font-size:14px; line-height:17px;"><span style="line-height: 16px; font-size: 14px;">After serving as Assistant and Associate Athletic Director for over a decade, Anne was promoted to David P. Pearson '52 Athletic Director, a position she held from 2001-2017. During her tenure, Sidwell Friends won 11 Directors' Cups for the best overall athletic performance in the Mid-Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAC), a conference which, along with the Independent School League (ISL), benefitted enormously from her leadership. In addition, Anne collaborated with the District of Columbia State Athletic Association to establish the DCSAA Championship tournaments. Sidwell Friends has competed successfully in these contests, winning championships in seven different sports. </span><span style="line-height: 16px; font-size: 14px;"> </span></span><br /><br /><span style="line-height:17px; font-size:14px;">Anne has been widely recognized for her accomplishments. She has been inducted into both the Frederick County (Maryland) and the DCSAA High School Athletics Halls of Fame. In 2017, she was recognized as the Maryland State Athletic Directors Association Athletic Director of the Year, and received the Patsy T. Mink Equity in Education Award. She has also earned the Knights of Columbus Coach of the Year Award, and is a two-time recipient of the SFS Goldberg Family Award. </span><br /><br /><span style="line-height:17px; font-size:14px;">Anne's children, Steffi '06 and Chris '04, are both alumni of Sidwell Friends, where they were accomplished student-athletes. A graduate of the United States Naval Academy, Chris attended medical school at Stanford University and is currently on active duty with the U.S. Navy as an orthopedic surgeon on deployment in Kandahar, Afghanistan. Steffi is a graduate of Sewanee, the University of the South, and a doctoral candidate in psychology from The George Washington University who will complete her PhD this year.<br /><br /></span><span style="line-height:17px; font-size:14px;">Please join me in thanking Anne for an extraordinary career, wishing her well in retirement, and rooting for the Quakers in her farewell season.
