Prosecutors say President Donald Trump's longtime personal attorney Michael Cohen should receive a "substantial" prison sentence for financial crimes he pleaded guilty to in August, according to a new filing in the Southern District of New York.

Prosecutors with the U.S. attorney's office for the region said Cohen overstated his cooperation with authorities and is seeking "extraordinary leniency ... based principally on his rose-colored view of the seriousness of his crimes."

In a separate Friday filing from special counsel Robert Mueller, Cohen was described as "credible" and having provided "useful" information to authorities.
