Dear friends— I wanted to share the exciting news that today, the LEGO Foundation announced an extraordinary grant to Sesame Workshop of $100M, aimed at uplifting the lives of children affected by the Rohingya and Syrian refugee crises by harnessing the power of learning through play. Almost exactly one year ago, we shared the news that, with the IRC, we had won the MacArthur Foundation’s inaugural “100&Change” grant—$100M dedicated to bringing early education to displaced Syrian children. Clearly, that was just the beginning. We hoped, as did the IRC and MacArthur, that our project in the Syrian response region—what will become the world’s largest early childhood intervention in the history of humanitarian response—would be a catalyst for others to step up and invest in early childhood development in crisis settings. The LEGO Foundation has done just that! This generous grant will dramatically enhance our ability to reach and teach some of the world’s most vulnerable children. Their bold investment will bring Sesame content and play-based learning to refugee families through direct services and mass media, partnering with BRAC in Bangladesh and deepening our existing work with the IRC and NYU, our research and evaluation partner. The global refugee crisis remains the greatest humanitarian challenge of our time. We feel humbled by the confidence the LEGO Foundation has placed in us and privileged that we have the opportunity to do such meaningful work. All of us at Sesame Workshop are grateful that we can play a part in changing the lives of displaced children around the world. Here is a link to today’s press release. As always, none of this work would be possible without our generous friends and partners. Thank you for your continued interest and support. https://www2.sesame.org/e/293712/-Sherrie-Lego-utm-content-text/2jn4gz/324310125 Wishing you all a wonderful holiday!
