As part of our on-going commitment to keep you abreast of the AG election news across the nation, we want to share the results of those primaries and give you a quick update on the elections in those states. Please feel free to call us at 303.831.0100 with any questions. _Kansas_ Last night Kansas GOP primary voters elected State Senate Majority Leader Derek Schmidt (R) as their nominee. Schmidt defeated former Assistant Attorney General Ralph DeZago(R). Attorney General Stephen Six (D) was unopposed in yesterday’s primary and is currently gearing up for the fall election against Schmidt. General Six has made extraordinary strides in fundraising with the “$6 for Six” campaign and will continue his fundraising march for the remainder of the summer. Steve Six was appointed Attorney General in 2008 by former Governor Kathleen Sebelius. After two successful years in office Stephen Six has pledged to continue his efforts in consumer protection, going after fraud and abuse on Medicaid, protecting rural communities and fighting identity theft. To find out more about General Six please visit his campaign website www.stevesix.com. _Michigan_ Last night the State of Michigan held its primary for Governor and all congressional seats in the lead up to the fall general election. Republican Attorney General Mike Cox lost his bid for the GOP gubernatorial nomination to former Gateway executive Rick Snyder. The attorney general candidates will have to wait until the Republican Nominating Convention on August 28th. Former state appeals court judge Bill Schuette (R) is currently running against State Senate Majority Leader Mike Bishop (R) and both prove to be strong candidates for the Republican Convention to chose between. Formerly The Attorney General candidates for November are selected by their respective parties at the conventions. Presumptive Democratic nominee David Leyton (D) is gearing up for the fall election against either Republican candidate. Leyton expects to be formally nominated by the Michigan Democratic Party on August 28th at the Michigan Democratic Nominating Convention. After years as Genesee County prosecutor (Flint area) Leyton is advocating to “put public safety first.” To find out more about David Leyton and his campaign for attorney general please visit his campaign website [2]www.davidleyton.com.
