Dear WFP-USA/WFP ROME colleagues:

I have some good news to share for WFP. Brig General Barbara Faulkenberry
who has been stationed at Travis AFB has a new role with the AFRICAN COMMAND
in Stuttgart, Germany starting later this month. Barb is an exceptional
leader and remarkable individual (see bio above) who has shown a strong
interest in the vital work of the World Food Program and would very much
like to visit our operations in the field in Africa as well as in Rome.
Below is a brief description of her exciting new position.

She is a personal friend who embodies "smart diplomacy" thinking in
everything she undertakes. I know you will all enjoy and benefit from
meeting her. She is a quick study and is eager to learn as much as possible
about Africa and the essential role of NGO's like WFP.

I spoke with Rick Leach, WFP-USA about her upcoming trip later this month to
DC and the possibility of some of the DC based WFP staff briefing her, if
her time and yours allowed.

Barb, could you please let Rick Leach know if you might have time to connect
with him in DC and if so, I believe he would be happy to make the
arrangements for you to meet some of our colleagues above.

In the meantime, if you have suggestions for others Barb should meet with in
the US, Europe or Africa, she likes to point out that she has access 24/7 to
air travel. So feel free to contact her at the email above.

Many thanks to you for any assistance to Barb as she undertakes this new
assignment. I know she will do a remarkable job and make us all proud. She

Here's a summary the of Africa Command:

The US Department of Defense established US African Command in 2007
to provide dedicated focus on Africa to support US foreign policy objectives
and to protect American lives and interests in Africa. Key Africa Command
initiatives include partnering with African nations to build their capacity
to address transnational threats and foster stability. Key responsibilities
address the consequences of humanitarian disasters and support peacekeeping
operations. Africa Command uses a support model that is based on
integrating local African capabilities to respond to needs and then working
with NGOs, if required, before tapping into US military manpower to help
develop indigenous support and advance local economies.
As the director of logistics, Brigadier General Faulkenberry will
interact directly with African military leadership, NGOs, and the US State
Department's Agency for International Development. She will have the unique
ability to create synergy between US military and African/NGO/USAID
initiatives to sustain progress.
Supporters of Barb's efforts have established the "African Nano
Fund"
to provide her with the ability to partner micro funding humanitarian
initiatives with US military efforts to sustain progress. See the
