Greetings,
Following is an update on some key WFP USA and WFP activities:

Pakistan Flooding:

* WFP USA has secured funds to support the Pakistan relief effort from PepsiCo Foundation ($250,000), Walmart Foundation ($100,000), Bank of America ($75,000) and Cargill ($25,000); we also received over $50,000 from individual donors.

* Unilever and Cargill are also seeking support for the relief effort from their employees (Cargill is matching the employee contributions).

* WFP's operational update is attached.


US Government Funding:

* WFP recently received $94 million from USAID to address emergency needs in the operations listed below.

* These funds were provided via a new cash-based food security account which had been proposed by WFP USA & the Roadmap coalition. The funds are intended to supplement commodity-based food aid provided by the USG and allows for the local/regional purchase of food. These local/regional purchases are intended to increase the speed of delivery and decrease the costs associated with transportation of commodity-based food aid.

* WFP received funds for the following operations: $35 million for Haiti (primarily for "food for work" programs), $32 million for Pakistan,

$18 for Niger, $6 million for Mozambique and $3 million for Kyrgyzstan.


The Award Ceremony:

* The award ceremony will be convened at the US Department of State in the Benjamin Franklin Room.

* Ambassador Elizabeth Bagley has offered to "host" WFP USA, thereby eliminating the customary $5000 cost associated with using the Room.

* Award Ceremony sponsors include: Monsanto ($50,000), DSM ($10,000), Walmart Foundation ($10,000), Geodis Wilson ($10,000), and the UN Foundation ($5000).
