Thanks Patty. One additional item. Next Tuesday, August 15, Governor Carney will sign Senate Bill 102 <https://legis.delaware.gov/BillDetail?LegislationId=25868>, a bill that consolidates Delaware law related to child abuse and child sexual abuse training and detection, suicide prevention, bullying, criminal youth gang detection, and teen dating violence and sexual assault and develops a non-academic training program that coordinates the trainings school district and charter school employees are required to receive.

That’s a long winded way of saying he’s signing the revisions to Erin’s Law. Patty worked particularly hard on these revisions (and the original bill, which Gov. Markell signed last year). Essentially, it requires that all public school teachers in DE go through 2 hours of evidence informed child sexual abuse prevention training every two years. As you know, the only evidence informed CSA prevention program in the country is Stewards of Children. So we have 11,000 people to train in the next two years. That will put us well over the 35,000 Beau pledged to train back in 2011.

At the signing, Patty will make remarks and announce at least two school districts have agreed to be trained before the law goes in to effect. We’re working with the governor’s office to make sure there’s a good amount of press on hand. If anyone wants to come, let me know and I’ll pass your name on the the Gov’s office. Oh, the signing will be in the State building in Wilmington.
