Support HT By Donating a Vehicle
Did you know that you can donate your car, truck or boat to Homeward Trails? Vehicles
are collected and auctioned through DonateCarUSA, HT receives the money and you
receive a tax deduction for the value of the vehicle, and the process could not
be easier.

Sponsor An Animal...Save a Life...

Our new HT program features but a few of the hundreds of animals Hom

These kittens and many other animals from the Disputanta, VA hoarding case need

eward Trails is asked to rescue each week.

Space and

money are our greatest barriers to saying yes to each request.

As a supporter of HT, you can help a great deal by making a donation [http://r20.rs6.net/tn.jsp?f=001dCt7mEdHHFmyiUQC0yPOOL8oIFLIavCbVo2gX5IdAeQ281dcgDrqz6rzuJJRJRFBCpJyPJqGQwXeueHysqbtwWqIRHP6LJi1a5Zda3BT0zDoc0183dGQZOghf24rLXosK0NFGAD200etbc-5pkIpRSgixTyrW0lRJP6hKBXGgrNf8RTh16jqGMMqjfbsBzZyhUqZu4a4OekwLm58rXW5095w8HOgRMBkhsLdOKdzXDQ3T3thLoasKam365Nyrlwx&c=C6jD4b9LjISiIA2pdJeBQ9fEa4vR3gBX0ppxvgPbMTGlrAk125M8-w==&ch=vxFGjvrbCTMLp-1qnPwP9QVJ1DuVDFukD1emJgsY0qN9SP4ZlVkG5w==]
to offset the costs to rescue one of these animals.

On average, it costs approximately $150 to rescue each dog and $100 to rescue each
cat. This includes basic vet care provided by the shelters, fuel for transport,
staff time, additional vaccines and housing once they arrive at HT.

We are now offering our wonderful family of HT supporters the opportunity to donate

Featured Cats
Meet
Oatmeal and Jim
Oatmeal and Jim are an adorable pair from the Disputanta hoarding situation. Oatmeal
is about 3 months old and Jim around 10 months. They love each other very much.
The Disputanta Kittens have not had a very good life so far. They never received
medical care, vaccines or spay/neuter. There was very little food and their skinny
emaciated bodies reflect that. Their ears and eyes were full of dirt and debris
and 3 of the 5 were terribly scared when they first arrived. If you want to make
the difference in the life of a kitten or pair of kittens consider giving one or
two of these a home. They must go in pairs or to a home with a friendly cat. We
will spay/neuter and vaccinate. We have already treated for fleas and dewormed
All tested negative for FIV and FELV. These cats and kittens are sweet loving
little cats now that they are provided with the love and care they need. They range
in age form 8 weeks to about a year and every day more of the sweetness unfolds

Featured Dog
Meet Bo

Bo is a gem of beagle looking for a new home. He and another pup were picked up
in freezing cold temperatures and were in awful condition. Bo hardly looked like
a dog-- as you can see from the picture above! He was nursed back to health and
is ready to find his forever family.
Bo is very affectionate and happy happy happy. He is great with other dogs and
has plenty of energy to enjoy long walks and outdoor activities. Bo wrestles every
night with the two dogs in his foster home and loves to drag all of the toys and
chew sticks into his crate. He is cratetrained and is picking up housetraining
quickly. He is living in a condo in the Capitol Hill area of D.C. so is fine with
urban noises and walks well in a harness. Bo also loves car rides and jumps into
the car on his own if you invite him to go!
Bo is an absolute joy to have around. Can you be the home this sweet and very playful
boy has always deserved?

focuses on teaching court involved and other youth compassion, respect and responsibility
toward animals and others by socializing and interacting with rescued dogs; promoting
the adoption of homeless companion animals; and encouraging healthy and positive
human/animal bonds. The goals of The Shiloh Project are to help these youth understand
animal abuse, its links to human violence and how interaction with animals relates
to human relationships, experience healthy, non-violent interaction with a companion
animal, learn proper care and responsibility for companion animals, and prevent
animal abuse, and discover how to make a difference in the lives of homeless companion
animals. It is also a great opportunity for the dogs to get some extra socialization.

In July and August we hosted our first groups of visitors from the program at the
Homeward Trails Adoption Center and the boys and the dogs all had a wonderful time.
We look forward to hosting many more groups from the Shiloh Project who will come
to learn and volunteer with us.

Help HT for a Lifetime and Beyond....

Have you considered leaving a gift to help HT's animals in your will? This is a
simple step that could carry on your love for animals forever.

You can do so by adding some very simple language to your will. Did you know that
HT has received thousands of dollars over the last few years from animal lovers
who bequeathed money to us?

Here is some sample language to use...it's really that simple:
General Bequest
"I give and bequeath the amount of $___ to Homeward Trails of PO Box 100968, Arlington,
VA 22210."
Percentage Bequest
"I give and bequeath ___% of the total value of my estate to Homeward Trails of
PO Box 100968, Arlington, VA 22210."
Bequest of a Residue
"The residue and remainder of my estate, both real and personal, wherever situated,
I give and bequeath to Homeward Trails, located at PO Box 100968, Arlington, VA
22210, to be used as the Board of Trustees directs."
Designated Bequest
"I give and bequeath to Homeward Trails, located at PO Box 100968, Arlington, VA
22210 the sum of $___ to be used for the _________ (specific program, project)"

Thanks to all who supported our fundraiser at Malek's Pizza Palace. We don't have
the total for the money raised yet but it was nice to see so many familiar faces
there!

A HUGE thank you to the 35 volunteers who helped out a Wags ' Whiskers. We had
a great day with lots of int

erest in our dogs and over $300 in donations and we could not have done it without
you!
Thank you to the St Stephen's & St Agnes School Junior Vet Camp [http://r20.rs6.net/tn.jsp?f=001dCt7mEdHHFmyiUQC0yPOOL8oIFLIavCbVo2gX5IdAeQ281dcgDrqz_bPrLfhE1uB9jeutyLNadH88DeTD62vwZTyZQqxue4tEhy5ImUWDhTYDGP5aLLZlLA8LVmY4c2_HVcYgtfOEjeUEuyLNatWHlJ1STfzT18y9fjUA-YyZynR3I4k_hZ8l5xmgaryEIi2MHXsomJ9LQ6MRCKoNPOb-g==&c=C6jD4b9LjISiIA2pdJeBQ9fEa4vR3gBX0ppxvgPbMTGlrAk125M8-w==&ch=vxFGjvrbCTMLp-1qnPwP9QVJ1DuVDFukD1emJgsY0qN9SP4ZlVkG5w==]

eyes to the many ways one can help get involved with animals in need and we are
grateful for the partnership. Our staff and dogs had a blast!

August Volunteer Awards
* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *
The Biscuit Award goes to
Jennifer Penington
The Biscuit Award goes to Jennifer Pennington. Jennifer is a new volunteer to
HT but she's already making her presence felt. A dog-trainer extraordinaire, Jennifer
spent her time at Wags n Whiskers with HT favorite, Sapphire, and helped do introductions
and keep her calm. She worked with her all day and helped her to participate in
event. Jennifer has also graciously opened up some of her classes to HT fosters.
Lastly, she's been working with many of the dogs at the Adoption Center to make
them more adoptable and give them some fun one-on-one time they crave. Thanks
Jennifer, we appreciate all you do!

The CatNip Award

goes to

Cheryl Bailey
The Catnip award goes to Cheryl Bailey. Cheryl has jumped in and done a number
of valuable things for the HT cat teams. She has fostered, transported, completed
adoptions and run events. Perhaps the most valuable of all is her ability to find
homes for some of our harder to place adult female cats and her willingness to
foster them until she does. Sometimes all it takes is new blood and new energy
to get a cat moving that ha otherwise sat in the system. We are very appreciative
of these efforts.

The Tail Waggin' Award goes to
Alice Lieberman

Our amazing volunteer, Alice Lieberman, gets this months Tail-Waggin' award. Alice
volunteers regularly in the HT office to help with data entry and filing of all
our Adoption Contracts & Foster Agreements. She spends hours & hours every week
combing through the stacks of papers and it's a HUGE help to both the cat and dog
side! Thanks for your dedication Alice, we are so appreciative!
