Yesterday, I was proud to stand at my husband Anthony's side as he declared his candidacy to be our next Governor. The outpouring of support we received from everyone who took the time to join us was something that I will never forget.

Anthony will make an amazing governor, and I’m not just saying that because he’s my husband. He spends every day working to give back to the country that gave him – that’s given our family – so much.

When I think about all that he’s accomplished, what always stands out is his commitment to helping people. Anthony stays up nights thinking about how to make your neighborhood safer and ensure the promise of a better future is there for you and your kids.

After graduating Harvard, Anthony could have gone on to any career he chose. He could have gone to Wall Street or to the corporate world, as many of his classmates did …with all the money and perks that go with it. Instead, he chose to serve.

Anthony served with honor in Iraq and around the world. As a community leader and delegate, he fought to build stronger, safer communities. And as our Lieutenant Governor, he’s led efforts to expand health care coverage, invest in education, reduce gun violence and create good jobs.

All of that, particularly his passion for service, is what makes Anthony Brown so unique. And it's what will make him a great governor and leader for Maryland.
