Dear 8th graders in Vertical Voices Playback Theatre and parents:
Thank you for making the commitment to participate in Vertical Voices Playback Theatre for 2014-15, which marks the ninth year for the eighth grade ensemble.
As you may recall from 7th grade in Quakerism and the Arts, Playback Theatre is a participatory, improvisational form of theatre that captures the essence of a story, feeling, or personal experience shared by an audience member.  Vertical Voices provides the opportunity for 8th graders to continue their interests in Playback while reaching out to the community at the same time.
For your information:  I’ve attached a copy of the company contract we reviewed  during our first rehearsal.  We expect you be present at all rehearsals and performances, unless you have made special arrangements ahead of time with Tim Reagan (reagant@sidwell.edu).

Rehearsal/Performance schedule
Rehearsals:  Wednesdays from 12:55-1:50 pm.  Rehearsals in MS Drama Studio.
Training Retreat:  Monday, Oct. 13, 11 am – 4 pm with Friendly Rewinders Playback (US troupe) in MS Drama Studio.  Pizza lunch provided.
Performance for family & friends.  Friday, January 23th at 7:30 pm, MS Drama Studio.  Pizza/drinks provided to performers before performance.
Bake sale & mini-performance:  Sunday, January 25 at ARTRAGEOUS.  Time:  TBA.  This is to raise funds for the service learning trip to Milton Hershey School (see #6).
Performances:  Monday, January 26, East Ed Diversity Conference at Sandy Spring School – during the school day, SFS provides transportation.
Performances:  May 1-2, 2015 – Service learning performance at Milton Hershey School (MHS) in PA.  Parent drivers/chaperones drive to MHS, where we perform twice at the middle school, visit Founder’s Hall, and then go to the hotel (to be determined) to swim and then stay the night.  On Saturday, we go to Hershey Park for the day.  We expect to be back in DC around 8 pm Saturday evening.   If you are interested in helping organize this trip, please contact Tim Reagan.
Performance:  May 8 – Grandparents’ Day – in-school performance.
We may travel to Lower School to perform.  Details in the works.
Last performance after final 8th grade meeting for worship – first week in June.
