POLITICO POLL - "2014 voters gloomy over economy," by Alexander Burns: "Despite continued signs of a halting but persistent national comeback, midterm voters remain frustrated and unhappy with the state of the economy, according to the latest POLITICO poll of likely voters in 2014 battleground states. Many appear to blame President Barack Obama: 57 percent of these voters disapprove of his economic leadership."

- "GOP has edge on immigration in midterms," by Seung Min Kim: "The poll found that 35 percent of voters in the most competitive House and Senate races this fall said they approved of how Obama has dealt with immigration, compared with 64 percent who said they disapproved of the president's handling of the issue. And by a narrow margin, more voters said they trust the GOP over Democrats on immigration."

- "Race relations same or worse under Obama," by Katie Glueck: "The poll was conducted Aug. 29-Sept. 7, following weeks of racial tension in Ferguson, Mo., after a white police officer shot an unarmed African-American teenager. Among white voters, 49 percent say relations are worse and 4 percent say they are better. Forty-seven percent of both white and African-American voters say they are the same. Thirteen percent of African-Americans say they have improved, while 38 percent say relations are worse."

FIRST IN SCORE - Crossroads hits Begich: Crossroads GPS went up with another ad in Alaska this weekend, pivoting from Democrat Mark Begich's mayoral record to his Senate record. Over imagery of Begich and President Obama, a narrator criticizes the senator on health care, cap-and-trade, debt and voting with the president. It's part of a $5.5-million buy, the group said.

...and Begich hits Sullivan: The incumbent is back with an ad contrasting his Senate record with Republican Dan Sullivan's state AG record. In terms of visuals and themes, it's largely a mashup of another recent anti-Sullivan ad (

RGA targets Hawaii: In its first ad of the race, the RGA is seeking to link Democrat David Ige to ousted incumbent Neil Abercrombie on the economy and contrasting them both with Republican Duke Aiona. The ad is backed by a "mid-six-figure buy" through RGA's Hawaii-specific PAC and is starting today in Honolulu, the group said.

- In Arizona, the RGA is also going up with a new ad today, again tagging Democrat Fred DuVal with the "lobbyist" label and hitting him on higher education costs:

Wolf touts Comstock: Virginia Republican Barbara Comstock is running her first general-election TV ad, a 30-second version of a previously released testimonial video from retiring 10th District GOP Rep. Frank Wolf, who calls her "a trusted aide" and "devoted wife, mother and public servant." The ad will run districtwide and follows Democrat John Foust's airwaves debut.

Peters turns to equal pay: Rep. Scott Peters (D-Calif.) is continuing his attempt to tie Republican Carl DeMaio to the tea party, this time over equal pay. The ad is going up today on San Diego broadcast and cable, as well as online, as part of an almost $2.3 million buy that started last month, the campaign said. Ralston Lapp is the ad maker.

Super PAC goes negative on Coffman: CounterPAC, a recently formed group opposing so-called "dark money," is going up this week with an ad lambasting GOP Rep. Mike Coffman in Colorado's 6th District for not signing the group's pledge. The ad speculates about the identities of donors to pro-Coffman groups. It's backed by six figures on Denver broadcast for a week, said the group.

The group describes itself as nonpartisan and has also advertised in the Alaska, Georgia and Iowa Senate races and WV-03, calling on both parties' candidates in those contests to sign.

DCCC up in CA-07: Republicans on Friday decried a DCCC ad hitting Doug Ose on his travel and spending during a previous House stint. Iowa ads incoming - "GOP frets over Democrats' Iowa spending," by Campaign Pro's James Hohmann: "Since GOP nominee Joni Ernst won the June primary, Democratic Rep. Bruce Braley and his allies have outspent Ernst and her supporters by more than $2.1 million, $9.2 million to $7 million. Democratic groups have reserved $10.8 million for the final six weeks of the race, compared to $8.3 million for Republican groups, according to sources tracking the air war. Meanwhile, interest groups from the left are piling on. Two more plan to launch fresh attack ads against Ernst on Monday: The League of Conservation Voters has reserved $744,170 for the next two weeks, and Planned Parenthood Votes has
reserved half a million dollars for the same period."

TODAY ON POLITICO - "Memo: Value in anti-Koch attacks," by Maggie Haberman: "The Tom Steyer-funded outside group focused on climate change has found attacks on the Koch brothers to be effective in key races and with a swath of voters for whom economics are a main driver, according to a memo obtained by POLITICO. The findings, laid out in a memo from Steyer adviser Chris Lehane to NextGen state teams, are synthesized from research in specific states by pollsters Anzalone Research, Benenson Strategy Group and Hart Research, and the data analytics firm Civis. ... 'One of the most intriguing findings in the polling is that the Koch brothers have emerged as a negative signifier for Republicans
aligning with these powerful self-serving corporate fat cats,' Lehane writes. 'Given these findings, various Democratic candidates and organizations are effectively deploying the Koch Brothers as a symbol of Republicans being the party of the Fat Cats (Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid knew exactly what he was doing when earlier this year he elevated the role of the Koch brothers).'"

2016 WATCH - "Hillary Clinton returns to the state that haunts," by POLITICO's Maggie Haberman in Indianola, Iowa: "Clinton delivered a measured speech, focused primarily on the 2014 campaigns. It had no explicit message of her own but at the same time was unmistakably about her political future. She tried to address the question on everyone's mind - whether she'll launch a second run for the White House - without being definitive or distracting completely from [retiring Democratic Sen. Tom] Harkin's big day. ...
- "Clinton spoke ahead of her husband, a far superior speech giver who went last as part of a tradition in which former presidents give the final address. But Bill Clinton, clearly trying to be mindful of not overshadowing his wife, nonetheless gave a speech that was less of a stemwinder than a potpourri of his thoughts on campaign finance issues and his love of Harkin. He never mentioned the state rejecting his wife, but riffed on topics ranging from 'sexists' questioning a woman candidate in Iowa to Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell approving of what Clinton called Koch brothers' 'black bag operations' in financing campaigns."

"Immigration Activists Don't Buy Hillary Clinton's 'Political' Answer," by BuzzFeed's Adrian Carrasquillo: 'Asked to give her thoughts on Obama's decision, Clinton answered, 'Well, I think we have to just keep working, can't stop ever working.' Cesar Vargas, the co-director of the Arizona-based Dream Action Coalition, then told Clinton the president had broken promises to the Latino community and asked if she supported his decision. Clinton ended the back and forth. 'Well, I think we have to elect more Democrats,' she said, before walking away. But a leader of the small group of DREAMers who crashed the Iowa event said they weren't satisfied with the answer. ... 'If
Hillary Clinton is going to try to stand for the immigrant community she's going to have to show she's better than the president - a champion for immigrants and not just another deporter-in-chief,' [high-profile activist Erika] Andiola told BuzzFeed News.' With video:
