Friends, thank you all for coming. I am so pleased to be able to introduce my father-in-law. Twenty years ago when I came into the Biden family, Pop took me, nose to nose, and told me he loved me and I was a daughter to him. His commitment to his family is remarkable. It seems he has more hours in the day than the rest of us. He doesn't miss recitals, Halloween parades, grandparents' day. He makes a daily phone call to us. He loves and protects his family fiercely. That commitment extends to all families. Nine years ago, in 1994, Pop wrote and fought to pass the Violence Against Women Act. The Vice President's accomplishments are vast but VAWA was one of his proudest moments. When that bill passed, my mother-in-law made posters and hung them from the trees so Pop could see them when he returned home. His work helped me to understand the need women and families have for our protection against violence in the home. When my friend Karen, along with Jenny and Marla, started DCVLP, I was supportive because of their great work representing women and children in crises. My support became more of a real commitment as I learned how practical and effective their program is run. Last year, on a budget of $350,000, DCVLP provided 3.5 million dollars in legal services. It is my honor to help spread their work and share with all of you. I am proud to tell Pop that we are taking his great work and putting it into action. Friends, it is my great pleasure to introduce our Vice President, Joe Biden. Sent from my iPhone
