In Maryland, we believe that elections are about building a better future for our children and our grandchildren, not an auction for the ultra-wealthy and special interests. Before the Supreme Court ruled in the McCutcheon v. FEC case, Maryland was one of nine states that restricted the total amount a single person could contribute in any election cycle.

Elections are the foundation of a successful democracy -- we should make our campaign finance laws stronger so that every citizen's voice continues to be heard.

But decisions like McCutcheon, and especially Citizens United, diminish confidence in our government and transfer political power from everyday citizens to a small handful of millionaires, billionaires, and large corporations.

That's why I teamed up with Iowa Congressman Bruce Braley to start a petition calling on Congress to roll back the negative effects of Citizens United. Please sign it today.

Bruce is great friend running for the U.S. Senate in Iowa.

Just a few weeks ago, his opponent, Joni Ernst, was caught on tape at a secret Koch Brothers' conference crediting the mega-donors in the room with getting her to where she is today.

A number of top-tier Republican Senate candidates attended the event -- it's a prime example of why we need to move our country forward by improving our campaign finance system.

Last week Senate Republicans blocked an effort to overturn Citizens United, so the stakes this November are high. Please sign our joint petition today.
