Dear R.Hunter,

I won't sugarcoat it. These are very tough economic times – with far too many people out of work, struggling to make ends meet, or living in poverty.

So it's stunning that in the face of all this pain, the Republicans only seem to show compassion for one group: the wealthiest among us.

The Republicans say it is class warfare to ask millionaires and billionaires to pay their fair share. But the only class warfare we've seen has been aimed at the middle class – by Republicans – and it must end!

The GOP only needs four seats to take control of the Senate and rule both chambers of Congress. If they do that, they will be in a powerful position to institute their dangerous policies and have an enormous – perhaps irreversible – effect on the direction of our country.

The only way we can stop them is with your help. Please, give to the DSCC now, before the Sept. 30 deadline, so we have the resources we need to prevent a disastrous result in 2012.

America has come so far over the past century. People no longer get sick from drinking tap water. The elderly and frail get proper care. Our air is protected from pollutants.

But now the Republicans are intent on rolling back this progress – and we simply can't let them do it.
