The Boston Globe Commentary November 1, 2018 Fariborz S. Fatemi There he goes again, Trump, continuing tosoil the presidency and the White House and serve as Putin’s lapdog. You know the old adage, when you lie downa.k.a. Trump with mangy dogs a.k.a Putin (Russia), Kim (North Korea), Mohammed(Saudi Arabia), to name a few, you will be inundated with super fleas. Putin blatantly sends a message that he is“willing to kill sources” by poisoning his opponents on British soil and not apeep of condemnation is heard from Trump. Is it any wonder that Mohammed, despite all his denials, orders thekilling of a U.S. resident Saudi journalist, Jamal Khashoggi, figuring that ifPutin can do it, and Trump lets him get away with it, why can’t Mohammed, Trump’sbanker, get away with it? Then there is Giuliani, Bolton, andGingrich, Trump’s collaborators, all of whom have taken money from a terroristgroup, the Mujahedeen Kalq, that killed American service personnel. Our national security community isappalled and dismayed by this bunch, fearing that our most closely guardedassets and sources are in danger. Last August, in a little noticed story in theNew York Times, it was reported that vital informants everywhere have gonesilent, leaving the CIA and other agencies in the dark. Why? Because theinformants feared that “sources” in the US, i.e., Trump, those around him, andthose in the Republican Congress, would be exposing them. Remember, in 2016, it was such informantsclose to Putin who gave our intelligence agencies “explicit warnings” thatRussia had gone all out to elect Trump and disrupt America’s democracy. Redlights are blinking everywhere, say those dealing with national security. Andthis is why most in the national security field say the greatest danger to USnational security is Trump. Trump who knows nothing and doesn’t knowhe knows nothing, and does not care, continues to attack our law enforcementagencies and the people working day and night to keep us safe. Questions abound,is Trump a sell-out politician? Then there is domestic terrorism reelingits ugly head aided and abetted by Trump and his acolytes. In a nation of 330million people, there are at least 30 million who need some kind of mentalhealth help. They are easily armed because of the lack of common sense gunsafety laws. Before Trump, they operatedon the fringes of society. Now they listen to Trump, right-wing talk radio andFox News and are moved to act out their horrific thoughts and fears. Now, hate crime murders, killing people ofcolor and bombs sent to former Presidents and prominent opponents of Trump. Onesuch event: shooting worshippers as they prayed in a synagogue. As a distinguished former US Attorney toldme in an email. “If Mr. Trump is a nationalist, then it is alright to kill Jewsand top leaders of the opposition, brown shirts are roaming the streets of thecountry, and Mr. Trump and his friends keep them in power to stay in power.” This is the state of our union as we enterthe midterms.
