November 1, 2018 Dear Seniors, Congratulations to making it to November 1 ! Many seniors have a college application deadline of November 1st. Over the last 10 days, the College Counseling Office has successfully submitted the following items (below) to any institution(s) that a student listed with a November 1 deadline in the log in book. 1) Student’s Sidwell Friend’s Transcript and Senior Schedule 2) Student’s College Counselor Recommendation 3) 2 Teacher (of student’s choice) Recommendations that student listed in the log in book. 4) A Sidwell Profile which explains Sidwell’s Quaker mission and curriculum. Please note- Colleges are receiving thousands and thousands of electronic submissions. Many students will receive an email after submitting an application allowing the student to access/create a portal to track submission of application materials. A staff in the college admission’s office is assigned to gather all the electronic submissions received at various times to complete a student’s application file. Just because it is electronic - does not mean that a file becomes complete instantly. It can take several days for this process to be completed in an admission’s office. Thus, the applicant’s portal may not be up to date for several days after the deadline. Applicants/parents need to be patient during the first several days after a college application deadline. Also, this will sound laughable….If you have a November 1 deadline (or any application deadline) – remember to actually submit the application. In my 13 years of working in a high school college counseling office, every year there is a student(s) who successfully completes an application with the intention of reviewing it “one last time” before submitting. However, the student(s) actually forgets to “hit to submit” button. Remember to actually hit to submit. 1st Quarter Grades: A minority of colleges will request first quarter grades from senior year for early applicants. First quarter grades are only submitted from the CCO to a college if the college requests 1st quarter grades by contacting the CCO directly or the student directly. If 1st quarter grades are requested - the grade range is reported but not the comments. Congratulations to making it to November of your senior year. In gratitude, The College Counseling Office [http://www.sidwell.edu/documents/graphicstds/Sidwell_logo_194open%20text.jpg]
