Elisabeth Hasselbeck swooned, "You are my favorite Democrat." Are we seeing a renewed administration-slash-campaign outreach to women? It looks that way. President Obama is hurting in the polls among women voters, once among his most ardent constituencies. It's a worry for 2012. Biden went on "The View" to talk about the campaign, Ron Suskind's book about the White House, and his signature issue, the Violence Against Women Act, which he called "the single most significant thing I have ever done in my life." Biden also grew visibly emotional when asked about the audience at a recent Republican debate booing a gay soldier. He talked about his son, Beau, who served in Iraq, and called the debate incident "reprehensible." Behar asked about the claims in Suskind's book about pervasive sexism in the administration, which got Biden sputtering. "Obviously they didn't talk to Michelle Obama or Joe Biden," he said. "If there is sexism in the White House, the person engaging in it is in trouble. Look, I am not suggesting there is not some instance where a staffer thought they were not treated well." He went on to say his own high-ranking staff is mostly female, and he asked them, "had they seen it?" "Nobody is aware," he said. "I don't see any of it." Speaking of, "You went to put your hand on Joy's leg, but you took it off, you stopped," Sherri Shepherd teased Biden. Behar waved that off. "My leg is your leg," she told Biden, who responded, "My leg doesn't look as good as your leg." Barbara Walters asked Biden if he will definitely be on the ticket next year. "I haven't figured out how not to be," he said. Eric D.
