Dear Friends, In the event any of you are in Washington DC next week (Cherry Blossom season!), you may be interested in the event below. I hope this email finds you well and enjoying spring-like weather, wherever you may be. All the best, James *James van der Klok* National Democratic Institute for International Affairs 455 Massachusetts Ave., NW, 8th Floor Washington DC 20001 Office: 202-728-5516 Mobile: 202.256.2079 *james@ndi.org <jvanderklok@ndi.org>* www.ndi.org Next week, Ágnes Osztolykán, a former Hungarian Romani MP and current Roma rights activist, will be in Washington to participate in events surrounding the State Department’s annual International Women of Courage awards (she is a former recipient herself). She currently serves as an Advisor to the Hungarian Minister of Human Capacities and, since leaving the Hungarian Parliament in 2014, as an education expert and advisor for her party, Politics Can Be Different (LMP). Ms. Osztolykán was elected to Parliament in 2010, and was the only female Roma Member of Parliament (MP) in Hungary. As an MP and in more than 200 speeches, Ms. Osztolykán spoke out for Roma in the face of open hostility, fearlessly advocating for the equal rights and inclusion of Roma in Hungarian society. She continues this fight in her current position as a Cabinet advisor, making a tangible contribution to Hungary’s education regulations, executing an EU-funded project on Roma integration and education, and ensuring that Roma inclusion remains a priority of government programming. Please join us for a roundtable discussion with Ms. Osztolykán for folks , *3:30 pm, * *Thursday, March 31, at the National Democratic Institute (455 Massachusetts Ave NW, 8th Floor). *Please RSVP to both David Meyer (meyerdk@state.gov) and Nadia Mouzykina (nmouzykina@ndi.org) by *COB Thursday, March 24*. =8
