President Barack Obama delivered an optimistic address at the Gran Teatro in Havana, Cuba, telling a crowd of assembled Cubans: "I have come here to bury the last remnant of the Cold War in the Americas."

Infusing his remarks with touches of Spanish, Obama said, "our grandchildren will look back on this period of isolation as an aberration," but criticized Cuba's one-party system, acknowledging, "we cannot ignore the very real differences that we have."

Affirming his faith in the power of openness to bring change to the long-isolated island country, Obama called on the Cuban government to lift restrictions on freedom of expression and said, "I believe in the Cuban people."
