Hello Hallie, Hunter, Ashley, I wanted to share with you a brief outline of a bill that will be floating around Legislative Hall when the members return in two weeks. It’s a bill that will tighten the rules on teacher licenses and, specifically, making it harder for a teacher to molest a student and retain their license. This is something we’ve all talked about before. Speaker Schwarzkopf has signaled his support, as has Senate President Pro Tempore Blevins. I’ve also attached the draft bill, but this will likely change, so please don’t circulate past yourselves. The bill’s supporters (including the Rodell Foundation) have asked for our support when the bill comes up in Leg Hall. Specifically, they’d like Patty to testify on it’s behalf and potentially tap in to our DE grassroots network. I think I speak for Patty when I say this looks like a good bill. I’m worried what the teachers union will say - they’ve not seen any of the language and have a tendency to protect their own even at the expense of what’s right. One of the nice things about being on this side of the political game is we don’t have to worry what the teachers union thinks! Patty, any additional thoughts or comments? At the very least, this seems like a great opportunity for us to have a discussion about how we vet these requests and how we decide what we’ll support and what we won’t. Oh, on timing? I suspect we have a week or so to determine our path forward here. Thanks, have a great Easter! /ja Joshua Alcorn 302/295.8340 (office) 302/598.1885 (cell) josh@beaubidenfoundation.org
