Featured Dogs
Meet Freckles
Freckles needs a loving foster home. He is one of the many dogs rescued from the
hoarder in rural VA. He was doing well at his foster home...until his family moved
away and now he is at our Adoption Center in Fairfax Station.
He's about 75 lbs, 8 years old, house and crate trained, and has a young happy spirit.
Give Freckles a soft bed, good food and he'll reward you with love and lots of hound
kisses.

Meet Smiley
Smiley is eager to find a new foster home--- or even a home forever. He's also a
rescue from the VA hoarder, who'd found a new home but unfortunately the resident
dog did not get along with him.
Smiley loves long walks, jogging, and being outdoors with his people. He's happiest
as an only dog or in a home with another easy going dog... and a human runner.
Smiley's 6 years old, 55 lbs and still very active. He's a great guy!

Featured Cat
Meet Candice
This beautiful black and white cat has been waiting a long time to find her forever
home.
While Candice is accepting of other cats, she'd really prefer to be your one and
only. She's an easy cat, healthy and fun to be around. She's ideal for a human
wanting an independent yet sweet cat to come home to every day.
Candice is fully vetted, spayed and microchipped. Can you help make 2014 her lucky
year? Hope so.

Special Needs Dog
Meet Munchkin:
He needs money
for surgery.
A two-year old havanese mix, Munchkin is a sweetheart--friendly, quiet, and good
with other dogs, cats & kids.
He's had a hard couple of months as he was found on the side of the road with bruising
and trauma to his rear legs.
He was favoring a leg, so we took him to the vet and learned he is going to need
expensive surgery. He has loose knee caps in both hind legs as well as a torn cruciate
ligament in one leg.
The surgery costs $3,000, but we think Munchkin is worth it especially since the
vet says he'll have a normal life after surgery!
Help Munchkin [http://r20.rs6.net/tn.jsp?f=001kGQCEcjohpI10ALvVCX_VYn4V-nzHmkFT_LMOJ2Bs1lLKRQNN1W1nK_jR-VVPdkPPOoJWkqX4PGnv5wM1l-bhv0yxv7tM004nX9N4IGQNO1CzbE14hpIAJizuEmxMvHj6reooc88Ilbx0Cx7Csy7sxwclBETc7T0Ws93yXkkc6AAs3grcuY-D8kipOcEWmAHnIqOVzbcbmnf6PHVFcN5CEtokiaRm2QKNGPM-IhAIBM=&c=ZVv8UMZjJXCrZvpGxc-ThuSX-78fbrnEAl6QUMdCFGFatucnL6ymcQ==&ch=PQTLHQBi_YGy0yqzNUmrbpvT1IYpfG8Wgq23uiTcS_3L-HfU-cXGWA==]

Special Needs Cats
Meet Remus & Romulus
They'd like you to help their foster with care costs...
Bonded friends, Remus and Romulus were dumped at a shelter a couple years ago and
have been living with a kind foster ever since.
From the start, they've had litter box issues that would put off most caretakers...
but not their fosters!
These sweet, handsome guys are now 14 years old and experiencing many health issues.
They have thyroid disease, kidney disease and intestinal issues. Remus needs regular
blood work and both are on special food.
Can you make a small donation to help their foster care for them? Thanks!

What does this mean? If you hire Ayoub for cleaning, repairs, or new floor installations
done this year you can elect to have $1, $5 or $10 added to your final invoice for
Homeward Trails. Then, at year's end, Ayoub will donate ALL proceeds to the two
charities.

HT Launches New Opportunity to
SAVE Animals WEEKLY....
Visit our Sponsor an Animal Page! Our first week's effort saved 15 animals!!
Every few weeks we come to you with a list of special needs animals...those needing
surgery, extra care or ongoing medical attention that goes beyond what our budget
can accommodate. You always come through for these animals....and we are so grateful.
What you may not know is that every week, HT is contacted by the more than 15 shelters
we work with, each begging us to take animals before they are euthanized.
These animals are healthy, friendly, adoptable animals.....they just happened to
have landed in an overcrowded shelter where time and space is working against
them. This is especially true for kittens and puppies in the springtime ... and
it means our shelters have to euthanize dozens weekly simply due to a lack of space.
We work so hard to take as many of these animals as we can. We stretch every space
and every dollar. But we can only do so much. Sadly, at the end of the day.....it
often comes down to available funds. With extra funding, we can often board the
animals at a local vet near the shelter for a few days while we await an open
foster home. We can pay a bit extra to the vet to have the animal spayed/neutered
in order to move them to foster immediately. And right now, we are working hard
to secure funds to hire additional staff at our Adoption Center so that we can
house and care for as many animals as possible while assuring they receive quality
care.
Solution & How You Can Help
We have created a Sponsor an Animal Page [http://r20.rs6.net/tn.jsp?f=001kGQCEcjohpI10ALvVCX_VYn4V-nzHmkFT_LMOJ2Bs1lLKRQNN1W1nK_jR-VVPdkPQMrrlqyaazlgyw4_k-nW_nR_yH5USyzdlhJ0rFzzRQZR_lSe5PateeR7W84KlkiOgq6QyiCv7OUGGWkCuo15AApLfaxscxxx9pan7frZJ4JN5kFQdhSvT89LtWaUkVdVNl4pRg0lZkhH2tGqOhQqv9nnlVOWhD0aEjD7RpdlHbxjgF2ybbljlgdNbLHkQZ5w&c=ZVv8UMZjJXCrZvpGxc-ThuSX-78fbrnEAl6QUMdCFGFatucnL6ymcQ==&ch=PQTLHQBi_YGy0yqzNUmrbpvT1IYpfG8Wgq23uiTcS_3L-HfU-cXGWA==]
so you, our loyal supporters, can look each week at the animals on our "priority
list" to rescue. And you can make a donation, of any size, to help us cover our
expenses to rescue them. Your donation will support medical, boarding, and transport
costs.
- $150 is the average cost to rescue a dog
- $100 is the average cost to rescue a cat
The more animals we can get sponsored, the more we can rescue. It's that simple!
Our adoption fees simply do not cover all the costs to rescue and care for the
animals we take in. So, we rely upon donations to make it all happen. With this
new initiative, you will be able to immediately see andhelp the animals that are
sitting in shelters awaiting our help RIGHT NOW.
Take a look at this new endeavor [http://r20.rs6.net/tn.jsp?f=001kGQCEcjohpI10ALvVCX_VYn4V-nzHmkFT_LMOJ2Bs1lLKRQNN1W1nK_jR-VVPdkPQMrrlqyaazlgyw4_k-nW_nR_yH5USyzdlhJ0rFzzRQZR_lSe5PateeR7W84KlkiOgq6QyiCv7OUGGWkCuo15AApLfaxscxxx9pan7frZJ4JN5kFQdhSvT89LtWaUkVdVNl4pRg0lZkhH2tGqOhQqv9nnlVOWhD0aEjD7RpdlHbxjgF2ybbljlgdNbLHkQZ5w&c=ZVv8UMZjJXCrZvpGxc-ThuSX-78fbrnEAl6QUMdCFGFatucnL6ymcQ==&ch=PQTLHQBi_YGy0yqzNUmrbpvT1IYpfG8Wgq23uiTcS_3L-HfU-cXGWA==]and
please spread the word...we will keep it current and updated each week with new
animals we are trying to save.
Your support will help us save an additional 15-30 animals a month....15-30 perfectly
healthy, adoptable animals.....that's between 180-360 more a year!!
A one-time donation or a monthly recurring donation will help us reach our goal
of covering the $100-$150 expense to rescue these animals. Any amount will help
us reach this goal. You can view this page daily and weekly to see the new animals
we are trying to rescue.
We look forward to making this effort a true success and saving lives with you.

Do More 24 (online) - Thursday, June 19

Do More 24 is a 24-hour online donation campaign between 1,000 DC-area nonprofits.
It is one day where we beg, plead and beg some more, asking our loyal donors to
make a small donation to HT which ultimately yields a big outcome for our animals!

The minimum donation allowed this year is $24...so please consider setting aside
$24 to donate on June 19. If we are successful, your $24 will become $48 as we
secure prizes along the way.
Last year we raised over $50,000, including a $15,000 prize for having the most
donors of any participating non-profit!!
So, mark your calendars so you'll be ready to give on June 19 ... and ask everyone
you know to do the same. We'll be asking you to share our goals on your Facebook
pages, with your friends, family and colleagues...and to be part of this amazing
effort to help hundreds of homeless animals. One day, one village, on amazing outcome.
Let's do this!

Volunteer Awards
* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *
The CatNip Award goes to:
Danielle Roberts
Danielle has been a great cat foster and adoption coordinator. In addition to all
that requires, she has also volunteered her time to combo test many of our cats
and She's used her photography skills to take wonderful pictures... that got our
cats adopted!
Danielle has been working at the Alpine Veterinary Hospital this past year as a
vet tech and she's seen many Homeward Trails cats and dogs.
Danielle, this award is also our way of congratulating you on your acceptance to
veterinary school this fall! We'll miss you, but know you'll make a great vet!
Good luck!
The Biscuit Award

goes to:

Jennifer & Dave Peterson

This month's Biscuit Award goes to a pair of folks who have played an instrumental
role in one dog's search for a perfect home. Jennifer & Dave Peterson fostered Lady
-- a senior boxer HT took in as an owner surrender. When the Patterson dog and Lady
weren't getting along, the Patterson's didn't give up on her. Instead, they became
her Buddy Program buddies! Now, the Patterson's ensure Lady makes it to Adoption
Events every weekend and they give her one-on-one attention by volunteering at
the Adoption Center where Lady is now living.

Jennifer & Dave truly go above and beyond for this sweet girl. We (and Lady) are
so appreciative. Thanks Jennifer & Dave!

The Tail Waggin' Award goes to:

Eric Yang

If you've ever been to an event with Eric you'll understand exactly why he deserves
this award. Always friendly and outgoing, Eric really helps make everyone feel welcome.
He consistently helps at adoption events. And, Eric's always ready to help with
urgent requests like last minute transports or Yappy Hours. His bubbly, vibrant
personality shines though in whatever he does. Thanks, Eric, for all you do!
